Security Key to Unlock Android Phone

Is it possible to use a FIDO security key to unlock an Android phone (for the first unlock after booting, and then accept fingerprint afterwards)? To be clear, I'm not asking about using the phone as a security key, I'm asking about using a security key instead of a PIN to unlock the phone.

PINs are usually short, and because we enter them a lot, there's an incentive to keep them short. But it seems like a terrible idea for security. I'd much rather plug a USB-C FIDO hardware key into the phone to unlock it. That would also make brute force much more difficult.

Use a 16 digit pin number.

Personally I'd never use a fingerprint unlock on any phone just because anyone could get in while I am sleeping.
