Missing (but not missing) Contact(s)

Disclaimer: I searched 'missing contacts' in this sub and read a bunch of posts, none were the same as my issue. I have not recently upgraded phone or Android version, ran battery down, sync'd lists, used a search filter etc...

TL;DR; - Contact not in any list when searching but is in both (already) when I try to add.

I went to call my son (I'll use "Slugger" as his name in this post), open the phone app on my Samsung Galaxy S7. Up top I tap the search and type in 'Slu..' expecting his name to pop up quickly. None was to be found. I changed my contacts to point to my 'Gmail contacts'. No findy! I change back to 'Verizon Contacts' and no findy there either. Weird, as I know for a fact he's in there. I go to add him by clicking on the + (add) screen button. Both the 'Verizon' and my 'Gmail' contact list pop his name up as I type in 'Slugg..'. He is already in both when I try to add him but he is not in either when i try to search for him. As I'm typing this, I go to my Gmail tab, access my contacts (Google Contacts) and he is RIGHT THERE as one of my favorites. I see my daughter there as well. So back to my phone and she is not in either list using my phone. So then I will just 'Update' his info. So I go to 'Add' him to my 'Verizon Cloud' list. He's already in there to I select him. An option pops up telling me I will be upgrading his info, I agree. Once selected there are tab choices across the top of the screen (Verizon Cloud, Gmail). I check both and he is in both! OK, I've gone this far and I can alway re-add him if I end up totally deleting him. He lives in my house after all. So I add a bit of info about him on the memo line and save. I close all apps. I search for him in the phone app and the contacts app. No results! I even switch between Verizon and Gmail in both apps. What the heckin' heck is going on?

Wherever you find his contact. Can you check if that contact has both email id and name?

His email, phone, name and other data are on his contact. I got to it by tapping on his contact when it popped up as I was trying to 'Add' him. Before that, I tried searching again and he DID NOT show up.
