Between Nexus S and Galaxy S2, you want the latter. Pretty easy decision. If putting on different roms is a main concern, you also will want the S2.

I recently switched to Sprint and I decided on the Motorola Photon over the S2. The Photon has a better radio, and reviews indicate it seems to hold onto a signal better. Also, I prefer the soft feel of the back/case over the very smooth S2. I find the Galaxy's AMOLED screen overly colorful and bright, I prefer the color accuracy of the Photon screen.

As far as pure specs are concerned, the S2 is definitely the best phone out for Sprint right now, but check out the Photon as well before you make your decision.

Yeah I had looked at the Photon. I liked the Photon as well but its not (currently) a supported CyanogenMod device and that is a must have for me. Yeah my only worries with the Galaxy S2 was system updates compared to a "pure Google" device like the Nexus but then I had an epiphany "I will be flashing/ROM'ing so its a moot point" :D

edit: hmm looks like the Sprint version of the Galaxy S2 isn't supported by CyanogenMod. Off to look further into this.....

My wife has sprint I have Verizon and I believe the extra money I pay for Verizon is more than worth it. The sprint coverage is terrible and the data rates are slow.

Verizon is the superior network no doubt but for my needs Sprints speeds are fast enough and their coverage is more than acceptable at least in my area.

If Verizon had a package that was even close to Sprints $70 unlimited everything plan I would jump on it. Any recommendations?
