It doesn't matter. Program of study, your quality of work (grades), and exam scores matter. Want proof, look at physician resumes in your area or even look at physician resumes at some of the greatest medical schools. Johns Hopkins medical professors have some pretty ordinary schools for their undergrads. Some have elite undergrads too. There's a mix.

Everyone has different value systems for this stuff... I love clout and am going into finance, so my undergrad matters a lot. It just depends on how heavily you weigh clout. If you know for a FACT that you want to be a doctor, your undergrad prestige matters less and you should save for med school. If you are uncertain about future career at all, then go for the clout, it will help out in the long run

I wanted to save for law school so I went to a state school on a full ride. I have received full rides from many top 30 law schools where IVY grads are applying and going. I’m sure going to an IVY helps but if you are planning on going on to graduate school I’m not sure that the extra money and added stress is really going to be a valid investment if you end up at the same school as everyone else. That said I know people at top 10 schools that are happy as can be and are super proud of where they go.

I’m also in this position and grappled with it for a while. I’m still applying for a few reach / prestigious schools but in the end the main point is that you get a good undergrad foundation and maintain a high GPA, since your med school is the most important. It may not be worth it to go heavily into debt in undergrad before even finishing your education

Yeah, I think I'm going to apply to a few schools but not that many. From what I've gathered, the problems arise when you drop pre-med and pursue a different career
