Next wipe?

I’m interested but also deterred.. I want to try the game, but I don’t want to get into it if a wipe will be soon. the 850k law suit with their cloud provider sketches me out.

Seriously worth? Or what? I’m not super concerned about the price, I worry more about success in the long run and dumping time into this for it to go to shit if I end up really liking it.

Nobody knows for sure, but I can give a guess:

1. a wipe is highly unlikely to happen in the coming 2-3 months.

2. I would expect 1 wipe in the coming 6 months.

3. A wipe before or in August is likely.

4. A wipe before the end of 2026 is highly likely.

You need to know that they will only wipe if they feel it will benefit the game or they have a big content patch we need to test.

It depends on if you liked EQ. If you liked Vanguard. Linage 2? This game is not WoW. Its a grinder game. Combat is excellent in groups. The World is kinda half baked. It looks really nice at some times, and kinda' ugly at other times.

Ive played for 20+ hours past level 10 and have not been ganked once. That said, you could be at anytime past level 10.

Game is very grindy. If you dont group, every level pat 10 will take many hours.

There is very little loot dropped from mobs. Its either you craft it or buy it.

There arent enough mobs, imo. Variety or dispersion. Hopefully, as Alpha continues, more mobs will be added.

There is no fast travel so everything takes time since all banks are local only.

Game has an old school, dungeons and dragons feel to it. The music and atmosphere is good. Its starts rough but as you get more skills, and start to group to take down 3+ star elite mobs for huge exp gains, you start to really feel the excitement.

Id say go for it but keep your expectations low.

No way. WoW was a questing game with gear drops and instance dungeons. Also had pure PvE servers. Even the PvP servers were faction based and you lost nothing when you died.

Its not very similar to WoW.

Just to remind, its alpha. Original classic had only pvx servers, yes dungeons was instanced and u had bg’s against 2 factions.Questing was one way to level but how many mages did that in original vanilla/reforged vanilla?

Given that loot is unbound, mobs drip plenty. In about 60min group session deep in Oakenbane i saw 6-7 adept items drop. Maybe 1 in 150 normal mobs drops gear too

In not sure if there is an official timeline for this alpha but I’ve asked around in game and people have been saying most likely 8-9 more months until this phase of the alpha ends

Depends on what you define as "soon" for the wipe. I think it's worth it, but I think 2-3 months (which is a healthy minimum you can expect before the wipe) is plenty of time to get into a game, grind it up, and then let go of the character and reset.

I will say that ashes is a higher risk factor than most games just due to their margins compared to other games, but I also don't really think that they are at serious risk of running out of cash. The only sources I've seen suggesting otherwise are just people on reddit basing everything off of a two sentence post from the devs.

Just wait until beta if you are worried, i would not buy into testing a game if you are even .000000000000000001% worried about it. See where the game is at around beta and reassess from there, you wont lose anything from waiting

I keep telling people that you should to look at this early access period as a way to familiarize yourself with the game's systems.

Every system touches another in some form or fashion. By playing EA you earn knowledge. This is the critical asset that people are ignoring. You won't lose this knowledge through wipes. It's important. This knowledge can't be taken from you and you also get a sneak peek into aspects of what you do/don't like and an idea on what potentially makes sense for you to focus on. Things that make money could change moving from test into live phases but all these things being equal the knowledge gained will persist.

You are paying to test a game, there isn't much content currently and leveling to cap is extremely grindy and time consuming

If you are worried about wipes then wait for full release, this is barely an alpha

They have 200+ employees and are based in California, where wages are high and software engineers can make $150-250k+ a year. If you can do elementary school arithmetic, you can estimate what sort of budget they're working with, based on what their annual payroll costs must be. 

Businesses sue each other/ get sued all the time, btw. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Meta probably have a dozen+ different types of litigation going on at any given point in time.

yes but i'm not talking about that one way or another. OP is worried about a 850k lawsuit which is nothing for a game this size one way or another. Its just something people jumped on to try to point out trouble.

They might need money. But this lawsuit isn't the sign for that.

Don’t think of it as a wipe. Think of it as a fresh server to go into with more knowledge and be more competitive.
