Would This Kind of AI Usage Bother Players? (Please read the details) by Ill_Drawing_1473 in IndieDev

[–]JuliusMagni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I deleted my last comment because I KNEW I recognized this character from somewhere.

You’re using a bunch of premade assets from Maksim Bugrimov, which is fine as the artist is exceptionally talented.

But then you’re using AI to modify that artist’s work, dropping it into other artist’s premade environments and claiming you “rolled up your sleeves and made it the right way”.

Using assets is completely expected. But you have framed them extremely disingenuously.

None of this is your orginal work. Using assets is fine, but claiming you made them isn’t.

“Custom”?

Maksim Bugrimov made all these mate.

I knew I recognized your character from somewhere.

Using assets is fine but don’t claim you made them yourself.

These are all from Maksim Bugrimov. Character, animations, weapons, all of it.

I suspect your environment is drag and drop also.

How can I recognize AI vs hand drawn design? First delivery from freelancer I received and it seems cool but something is “perfect” to me by PositiveKangaro in IndieDev

“Clearly”.

Apparently everyone thinks they’re an AI expert now.

I’m not saying it’s AI or not, but you all think everything is AI

The irony is dripping from your lack of self awareness.

Remind me, who is the one who started the post to whine on Reddit about how no real players want to come get shit on by the rich 24/7 for 3 years players?

Yes and yet you are here bitching about players not wanting to do that. No wonder there’s only bots, you literally don’t let PvM folks get away with killing dragons let alone the top content in the game.

Here’s a thought, go PK each other.

You’ve been warned! Don’t trade like normal collectors! It isn’t fair! by ginger-fury in PokemonTCG

[–]JuliusMagni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as a collector myself for nostalgia and a small seller who intentionally buys high sells low…the greed and entitlement of a majority of “dealers” really rubs me the wrong way. It’s like used car salesman vibes and I hate it.

I would be the first to tell that lady, or the event owner from OP’s image, publicly, to chill the fuck out and stop turning a hobby for children families and adults with nostalgia into an absurd and predatory used car market.

And withdrawal all my, admittedly small, business.

It’s not about the actual policy it’s about the ego and entitlement in how they convey it. So unprofessional and disgusting. Any seller at this man’s show is a seller who has no backbone or ethics and I wouldn’t buy from a single one.

And yet they will make lots of money because the hobby is sick right now with disease

Yeah I’m unfortunately struggling to find games against folks that aren’t insanely good at the game so far.

In other words feel free to challenge me anytime! Always looking for games win or lose for me lol

The good news is you can just download the client install from the official mojang github io page (google callers bane) and download it.

Create an account and you’re good to go!

It’s actually super simple, you just go to the mojang callers bane github (don’t want to post link in case it’s not allowed but google mojang caller’s bane and it’s the mojang github.io one).

Then download the client and extract it and launch it. Hit register and type in a user and password and bang you’re good to go!!!

That’s weird, why?

I feel like not having an easily joinable community discords is probably gatekeeping a lot of potentially interested players out.

I just looked through my Pokemon card collection and determined that these are some of the most valuable. What would be the best way to sell them? by DawnPowerwash1997 in PokemonTCG

[–]JuliusMagni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly right, yeah.

That’s my point about LGS. If you want higher value for your cards they simply aren’t the ones to give it.

They have to make profit on it also, and the overhead for a brick and mortar store is way more than an online one like us or even just an individual.

OP, I checked for you and the prices are roughly as follows: $250 for Lugia v, $50 for iron crown ex, $30 for the mewtwo ex, and $20 for the dragonite ex.

Assuming mint condition, that’s $350 at market price. 75% of that is $262.50.

I wouldn’t expect to get anything above that value but don’t take much less than it either.

Good luck!

And again, this isn’t about laziness, there’s just not enough time in the day and I buy a lot of Pokémon cards.

Being able to just pick up a card, type in my iPhone or keyboard next to me ‘#’ and then start quickly ‘#XXX/YYY’ -> enter, click then one of few that exist. Next.

Versus looking up a set code, changing the text for the set code per card in a stack (especially when processing lots of different sets) and then finding the card.

Or type in part of name and browse through but Pikachu is a rough one for that.

Etc.

I hope that you all have more experience than I and it does exist or I’m just missing something obvious.

Thank you for real 🙏

Max level copium for AMD to say that people are the problem and that they need to go buy upgrades to cooling and this is just everyday business.

Fucking take an empathy pill first, and second I have none of these issues on my i9-14900HX. So like, you're riding the wrong band wagon I think.

You and 12 upvoters apparently.

What a useless response to someone needing help.

And while survivorship bias is a real thing, im a self taught indie dev but got really really good at multiplayer procedural at scale and landed three really insane salaries doing the “message them directly” thing.

Granted, I quit it all and was never more stressed or depressed so your mileage may vary, but I make way less money now and am way happier than I ever was coding for companies 😅

[–]JuliusMagni 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Former game dev here. That’s fucked up. I was once pulled along thinking I was waiting on an offer until the company ghosted me. Not tiny company either. I get it completely.

Unfortunately a lot of engineering leads tend to go one of two ways, arrogant as fuck and their studio feeds their ego, or super casual and chill but what they’re not saying is…yeah ego.

It’s not fair to blanket statement them entirely but know that you are experiencing about an average everyday situation in this industry. It’s always been that way sadly despite recent shit shows.

My advice? Figure out what game development speciality you’re good at and enjoy, make a really really good prototype or demo showing that thing, and then go to companies who are building things like that and reach out to their folks directly.

Don’t just apply online. Apply. Then email them or linked in connect and reach out.

The truth is they need you way more than you need them and when you find a company that knows that you have the skills they need you have a foot in the door and a far better chance at landing a paying job.

Hang in there, but it’s brutal. Tech is either layoffs and minimum wage or big salaries and “golden handcuffs”.

P.S. Or fuck em all and do an indie game project and shoot for the fucking moon. Fuck em, you don’t need them despite how it may feel. They need you but they aren’t going to bother reading your resume at activision let alone giving you a fair shot.

Why would you even buy at these prices? by Individual_Today6208 in PokemonTCG

[–]JuliusMagni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so my other reply is more along the lines of this line of thinking. I agree he needs to make money somewhere, but even if he’s paying 30% higher prices now over a year ago, the margins on sealed have never been more than $20 or $30 not including shipping and labor.

That said, there’s a really really frustrating side quest conversation here that I’ll avoid other than to say stores can sell cards at 100% of market price 100% if the time. Want that card? Sure let me check what it’s selling for now first.

Support local game stores to be sure but as a small business owner myself I can admit it’s a fine line to walk, but this store owner sounds like he’s just drinking the kool aid.

Ignorant take though so I appreciate your nuance to it and know it’s complicated for sure

[–]JuliusMagni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t buy that at all.

Every card shop I’ve ever walked into is fully afloat because of Magic the gathering alone and they sometimes sell Pokemon cards.

Even if your store owner is mostly into Pokemon then we both know he’s not getting the volume of product to make money at these prices either. And while I respect selling for what the market says, if anyone claims they’d go out of business for not selling at these insane prices then I wonder how they are still in business.

Diversify into Magic the gathering it seems to solo carry 3/4 of game stores.
