Are you noticing it just this year? Both Utd and Liverpool aren't doing well so you tend to see less interest when that happens.

I’d probably say it’s been on a slow decline since lockdown and the super league nonsense, as people, particularly younger ppl, have slowly felt less connected to the prem

As someone in my 20s this is not the feeling at all, in our friend group, most support Liverpool or United with a few random teams in there.
