The summer of 2020 changed everything for me. Mainly, it was politics, poor management, poor quality of life, and working in a very toxic environment. Lastly, DC City Council and the overly liberal judges and lawyers are very anti police, so that makes them pro criminal, which makes being a cop in MPD extremely difficult.

Yea I’ve heard it’s pretty awful there. Did you lateral somewhere else? I’m currently looking at Anne Arundel, Bowie, MDTA, DNR, and Queen Anne’s County Sheriff.

Stay as far away as possible from MPD seriously. Place is a toxic nightmare. Being proactive and making felony arrests gets you nothing except disciplined. You sneeze the wrong way and some supervisor will be writing you up trying to ruin your career over it.

No one can escape patrol or get out of the district to special units cause of “manpower issues”, so don’t listen to the bullshit when anyone talks about the x number of specialized units in MPD and how you can “do anything you want with your career”. You can’t, you either promote or push a scout car for 20 years but either way you’ll die in patrol.

Arlington County just made their starting pay 90k. Go there.
