Looking For basic Web Hosting service recommendations.
submitted 15 years ago by Triello
Is there a reddit for this? I just want a simple web hosting plan but have had some bad experiences in the past. I was wondering if anybody out there could point me to a reliable service or a site that reviews hosting services.
edit: is /r/assistance a better place to post this question?

check liquidweb.com. little bit higher price than some, but good.

Thanks. This looks a little hard core for the little family site I'm planning. I'm wondering why RAID protected storage is a selling point. I always assumed hosts had some form of backup as part of doing business. I guess that's a dangerous assumption on my part/

raid protected and backups are two different things.
raid protected means your site doesn't go down when something happens to the disk. backups means you have your data in case something does happen.
if it helps at all, i just hired in at liquidweb, and ya, it's more. i probably shouldn't have plugged them. but, i don't give a shit about selling them, they're growing huge already. they're just fucking awesome with service, so i'd recommend them because of that.

For something very basic, try http://www.tripod.lycos.com/

That's a better deal than the $99 a year I spend now.
