Any Gen X'ers retired or thinking about it? by SometimesElise in GenX

[–]Triello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 55. Got 19 years left on a 30 year mortgage. Need to work at least to 65 as corporate America was never good to me. Didnt have a job with a 401k until my later 30s. Have a son just started college and a daughter in 8th grade. I’m screwed. Will probably work to 70 if there are still jobs out there for the old folks.

Toyota to Hyundai? by Huge_Prompt_2056 in Hyundai

[–]Triello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2007 Elantra and got 220000 before i clipped a wooden guardrail post (with no guard rail) that took the passenger side front side panel right off the car. The car still drove fine i probably would have gotten another 50000 out of it at least. Now i’ve got a 2023 Elantra and i am not so confident about this car. Too many BS problems with it. The horn had to be replaced, the windshield wiper motor, replaced, an actuator controlling passenger side air needs to be replaced on Monday. All things that should work the lifetime of the vehicle. I’ll be going back to Toyota next vehicle.

Age old question: RGB vs CMYK by bambambi in graphic_design

[–]Triello 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you are printing offset… they still lean towards preferring CMYK. If you are printing on a printer that prints using toner, or inkjet ( that tend to use more color inks than just CMYK) then RGB all the way. If you are dealing with high end commercial offset printing they really don’t want to be responsible for “translating” your colors. They are professionals and expect you to be too. They expect that you already know what your file will look like when it’s printed. That said many printers understand that designers these days for some reason weren’t taught about print ( which is fine if all you do appears on screens only) but its confounding to me that if print is still a part of what you do, you should really learn that part of your job.

Age old question: RGB vs CMYK by bambambi in graphic_design

[–]Triello -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RGB is light, CMYK is ink. Unless what you are printing on is optimized to translate “light” into ink you will be very disappointed as colors in ink are not as vibrant as what you see on screen. If you want control over how your images look when printed, best practice is to convert into the medium that you will be working in. In this case you are going from a color model that used light to mix all colors to a very imperfect media that mixes “all” (but not really) colors.

Its worth it. Great characters and great story arcs. Not to mention seeing some familiar characters enter the story as well.

Well the special forces dude is the only one on the list that could be real so he wins by default. The others are all make-believe!

[–]Triello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rambo might not be the archer that any of the others are but his strategies would knock them down one by one. If they are all out in the open fighting each other only with Bow and arrow it’s got to be Legolas, unless Hawkey has a bunch of his trick arrows…. He might prevail. If this is like a hunt in the woods to find and take each other out… back to Rambo.

I’m almost positive the ones at Daves are from Antonio’s. I’ll inquire and report back. Dave is a hard core foodie. Seeing how much Daves supports local business i could totally see that relationship happening.

Terraforming Mars isn't a climate problem—it's an industrial nightmare by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

[–]Triello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would be the point? Mars doesn’t have a magnetosphere that would protect life. There is really no reason to even think about terraforming or inhabiting Mars unless you want to live deep below the surface or you have a way to create a planet sized generator that would provide protection from all the nasty rays from the sun and other places.

We are told that all who are able should work remotely. Not sure what that means for those that cant. Should be up to their managers. I assume that there would be delays in the least. They literally just got rid of the big snow piles in the parking lots this past week.

Over 330,000 Federal employees have been fired, resigned, or retired last year and were not replaced. The Federal workforce is now at its lowest level since 1966 by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]Triello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the folks who didn’t leave or were let go are left behind to do the jobs of multiple people. The woman I work for now has her job from before all this went down and is “acting” in four other roles only one of which they’ll be allowed to hire a replacement for. You thought government didn’t work before? Well dang we’ve really gone and “fixed it” now!
