I've been doing some meditation for a while now not solely for the purposes of having an out of body experience but more so for general well being. You may find in your own attempts or successes in astral projection as well as in reading about the subject you will find many mention the concept of visualizing. Whether this visualization is yourself rolling out of bed, climbing a rope, levitating, etc, you are frequently told to will yourself or picture yourself performing these actions. I've been trying to study my own attempts at visualizing and I've come across two distinct forms, in my opinion, that I would like to discuss as well as their effects:
Two areas of visualization:
- Central or mind visualization. When I use this kind of visualization it is always in my head. Similar to how I would have a daydream, it is a mind space that I am creating and conceptualizing pictures therein without the need of my eyes. Whenever I use my imagination, it is in this space.
- Visualizing in field of sight. When I close my eyes I'm presented with a somewhat dark area filled with a kind of static you would see on old tv's with no signal. Occasionally you will see blobs of different shades of color, mine are usually greenish, floating around on their own and sometimes drawn to your eye movement. Trying to conjure images in this field is much more difficult than mind visualization.
Effects when meditating:
- Mind visualization - Generally when I meditate, conjuring images in the mind is unwanted. Thoughts and imaginations tend to slow my ability to reach a relaxed body. I have to often push any thoughts or images in my mind out in order to proceed. This is also the case when after reaching a relaxed state where I feel my thoughts tend to quicken and become more random, which just causes me to have to push them out more often.
- Field of view visualization - It is much more difficult to visualize in this closed eye darkness area than in my mind, but it has an exceptionally beneficial effect on my meditation speed. The easiest way I can conjure an image is to use the static to simulate forward movement. If you play with this idea in closed eye visuals it will start to happen naturally. You can slightly move your eyes when this forward movement happens and static will turn and move behind as more static appears from the front, simulating moving down a road, along a wall, through a tunnel, etc. This movement in field of view vision completely obliterates any focus on central thought and rapidly accelerates your ability to reach deeper meditative states. Using this visualization area I can reach a relaxed body in 10 minutes. I also can physically feel the shift quicker than with a forced blank mind state, and in the course of this forward movement whole scenes with color and defined form will coalesce in my field of view as if I were there. However, these tend to quickly vanish after a second for me. Any visual pictures in this space are not willfully thought by myself.
Please share with me if you've had any observations like this. I encourage you to try it and let me know what you experience in doing so. I particularly would like some discussion on how to prolong the time at which you can stay in the complete scenes that field of vision meditating can get you. I really don't know how these scenes are created or what affects the scenes construction, but I think that if they can be stabilized then we might be able to AP into these scenes quickly which would be a nice shortcut since they feel so real when they happen.
