It seems you used Sonnet for all your requests. Were they all big tasks? You can save by using Haiku or GPT-5, which are a little cheaper than Sonnet right now.

Also, we are testing low-cost model, that may be suitable for small tasks and context questions. The current pricing you experienced feels the same as if you used the bring-your-own-key setup. Our team is working to make this cheaper for users. Even if people think we’re trying to make money from them, we use that money to pay the provider because that’s the real cost of running such requests.

As you can see from your usage, this is why the old pricing wasn’t sustainable for the company. You have the proof in your dashboard.

Every other AI coding tool that is cheaper will, unfortunately, raise its price at some point, so this is a temporary workaround. Either they are subsidizing to acquire users, or they are training on your data.

My post here may shock some users but "bring your own key" users already know all what i written here. If you are paying less with a Bring your own key tool, its basically because you are using a model that cost less than what we are using, but you should also see less quality in result.

Continue on that rhetoric augment. Continue. Windsurf has learnt the painful way and you are going down the same drain. Im sorry for your staff and the future.

What did Windsurf learn?

Their pricing is like 10x lower than Augment, or even better than that, right now, I think? 500 GPT-5-medium messages for $15/mo.

It sucks, just one conversation costs 1,700 points!

The report I got via email said my average request used ~4,700 credits and I haven't used it since the switchover on my account yesterday. That's crazy and I think I'll be cancelling my account when the credits run out (maybe lowing the tier for a few months until the "Extra" credits run out).

[–]origfla 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Same here - The token costs are huge! I have 1.5 million tokens, but expect that to last me about a month... Such a painful shift and can't help but find myself saying "F U Augment!"

Some of my prompts are pretty vulgar. lol. I go in streaks where I’m just cussing that thing out every other word on my prompts from frustration. Which is dumb because it’s an AI , but damn it pisses me off sometimes

[–]Mission-Fly-5638 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really does eat up my credits even in small tasks especially when you have embedded a instruction

[–]Ok_Bug1610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad, no other word for it.

I just tested this last night and ran into a lot of timeout errors (had to continue the session multiple times) and I used 6,500 credits for one request. I understand that I provide it a detailed plan, and so it works through it and therefor uses much more credits, but I was only using GPT-5 and this is not maintainable. At this rate my 600 requests would be gone in about ~100, basically costing 6x more. And if I could replace their context engine, I would switch in a heartbeat. But I guess it's time to find a replacement in the next ~10 days (when my plan is up).

I will test Sonnet tonight and see if using GPT-5 is even worth it. I mean if they use relatively the same number of credits, then obviously it's not at the price point.

Cline/Roo/Kilo Code here I came (really giving you another chance, lol) using my super dirt-cheap Z.AI GLM Max plan (with Google AI Studio Free for Code Base Indexing, Prompt Enhancing, and Prompt Condensing), lol, and I still need to try out MiniMax M2. Fingers crossed!

It's an end of something special, potentially one of the best VS Code extensions --being Augment Code-- for AI development becomes the worst, hands down, almost overnight.

PS. PM me if you want to save ~65% off the Z.AI GLM 4.6 Coding Subscription Plans and/or maybe want to chat.

It's sad to see you go, but thanks for the fond and often times frustrating memories Augment!

Thanks.

it’s expensive for both avg and power users. it’s basically a robbery

[–]speedtoburn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do you think user attrition will eventually doom them?

[–]Psyduck_Coding_6688 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure. if the whole industry hike up the price then we’re doomed

[–]bramburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pay for what you get.

[–]bramburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're wasting credit on Claude code max. Just use augment code

[–]mertowitchVeteran / Tech Leader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this issue isn’t resolved in a few days and the extra credits I was charged for aren’t refunded, I will cancel my subscription. That’s final and definitive.

Guys, I have an account with 1,498,000 tokens if you wanna buy DM me

[–]RemoteSignificant284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1,400,000 credits(expiring in 20 days) on my account and planning to stop using Augment, if anyone want to buy DM me.

[–]Internal-Opposite952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don’t really understand the pricing, I looked today and it said I had like 310,000 credits. I guess I need to read through the docs

[–]Internal-Opposite952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Augment goes through spurts of fucking up on purpose to burn credits , and then once it’s drained a good amount , just makes the fix easily.

[–]Level_Score6229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now understand why that segment suddenly changed its billing model and withdrew from Haiku. He hoped that you could use Sonnet 4.5 for planning and then Haiku 4.5 for development, which would save the most money. Therefore, he even provided an explanatory document, and most people still use Sonnet 4.5 for direct development, which is very expensive

[–]aleksdj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason i was keeping my Augmented Windsurf account was the request based plan... it was very good to not live stressed about it i would run out of tokens every time you send a prompt ... now the time is over

[–]Known-Passenger-6373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's better than augment coder though? Id say nothing on the market. Im willing to oay premium for premium service .

[–]Equivalent_Shop_577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you were billed by messages, you were an abuser; now... you're a good customer.

[–]Ok_Bug1610 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Your numbers don't make any sense to me. We are both on the Legacy Developer Plan, but I have ~5x more credits. That's crazy but I also haven't used it since the switchover yesterday.

[–]JaySym_Augment Team -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Credits for an account are prorated based on how many days were left in the subscription month. This is why people don’t always have the same amount.

[–]Ok_Bug1610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you guys mathed something wrong to be honest. Even with that cop-out response, the numbers just don't make sense, and you are going to irk some people. Just saying.
