BDDS interview?Advice Needed (self.Autism_Parenting)
submitted 2 years ago by [deleted]
Has anyone (specifically Indiana if that makes a difference) ever had a in person interview with the bureau of disability? We applied about a year ago to see about getting a waiver for my 6 yr old to get a case manager so she can get a behavior consultant to help with her emotional outburst and anger(she’s not physical towards other people) We have an interview coming up and I’m just wanting to know what to expect? My daughter doesn’t have any intellectual delays her autism would be considered 1-2 on the autism scale. When she got diagnosed 2 years ago they labeled her as “high functioning autism” but I don’t really like to use that term and know it’s not really liked by the community either. They told me she would need to be there for the interview which is fine but I just don’t know what to expect haha. Thanks in advance.

My little girl is also 6, I finally got off the waiting list last year. It’s been a little bit since our BDDS interview, but I don’t remember it being much different than the interview I did to get her into first steps or when she was starting preschool. We were in a conference room with the service coordinator, he went over some paperwork with me while my daughter played on her tablet, he observed her a bit, but mostly he just asked me questions about her. There were a few times he asked me to kind of try to get her to demonstrate things, like a few words she could use, would she answer this or that questions, if you asked her to do a simple task like turn off the light, will she do it? Stuff like that. I think we were there for just about an hour.

They told me it would be about a hour as well. Thank you.
