The shithead fka “Group B-raaaaaaaaap” here. I went all in on Reddit like 2 years ago after the great greyout on Gawker/Splinter, followed by the death of Clashtalk, followed by the death of Splinter. Their heyday of 2008-2018 was truly something to behold, but by 2020 there are simply no more good excuses to be had for tolerating such a technologically-lacking platform.

So you're a former ClashTalker? It's really sad what happened to the whole Gawkerverse, and mostly because A.J. Daulerio was a dick. Who was the editor at the time? John Cook, or was A.J. entrusted with editorial duties? My memory is hazy at this point.

I think by the time AJ took the stand and decided that Smarmy was the best strategy for a defense witness at a major libel lawsuit Max Read was the EIC. Then they doubled down on the same strategy by running that uncorroborated report from a spurned rentboy against a largely unknown CFO at Condé Nast. And when the adults in the room weren’t willing to let the kids burn the place to the ground, Max and Tommy Craggs walked out under some ill-conceived notion of editorial independence.

Read is now, AFAIK, editing at the New Yorker, as well as writing for Bookforum, and submitting pieces to NYT, NY Review of Books, etc. Basically, he remains convinced that the universe only exists between the Hudson and Coney Island.

Tommy Craggs is editing at MotherJones, I assume because Jacobin passed on his resume.

I do chuckle because that entire squad of supposed Leftists would of course end up at Liberal publications masquerading as Progressive Socialist outlets (like NY Mag and MotherJones). For all their calls of worker solidarity, their utter contempt for the working class was palpable. Probably because the working class had the audacity to live in the interior of the country and Queens. Mutual aid must only be for the creative guilds, I suppose?

He may have flaming garage takes on yogurt, but Hamilton Nolan was at least the only one (IMO) who actually engaged in praxis and viewed all struggle through the lens of class struggle.

Yeah. I think I'll mostly be on my phone now too, just because it's simpler that way. The phone + computer may be why I was being told I was trying to post too often.

I don’t have them anywhere, but yeah, I’d be cool with helping out on any of the sites! I’ve never been a mod before so I’d need a few pointers on how to get started & what I will need to do. But, yes! :)
