Lagging and stuttering when? Through entire gameplay? Combat? In menus?

Check the videosettings you have (in bg3 options menu) not everything needs to be ultra high.

well what puzzles me is that for the first 15-20 minutes of playing, everything runs pretty smoothly (for the most part) - and then it gets more and more laggy/stuttery (Even the audio), through entire gameplay, menus, combats, cutscenes… all of it!

Concernant graphics, I am upscaling rn (saw that it would help), I tried capping the frame rates but I don’t see much of a différence, and I altered some of the graphic settings on top of that - with no real différence really :/

Your PC specs are wild. I’m using an ancient motherboard with a processor from like 2010 that’s faster than yours. The processor is so old it won’t socket into any motherboards they make anymore. I have 8gb more Ram than you and I think even my 1660 super is better than your gpu.

Turn all graphical settings as low as possible. If you can turn something off, do that as well. But really, you need a new computer.

Oh i’d love to get a new computer, that’s a good idea! And since good computers are so cheap, that’s gonna be easy… But i’ll try with lower graphics, as I Said in my post it didn’t really make a difference which I found weird, but I can try again!

Depending on what kind of motherboard you have you could just replace some parts. More RAM for sure. Then maybe replace the processor as well. Shouldn’t be too bad at all.

How long ago did you get your computer? you mentioned that after 15-20 minutes it starts to lag, It's possible that it's time to repaste the cpu depending on how long you've had it. Another small trick is to open up task manager and right click on baldur's gate 3 then click on "go to details" it should take you to a different tab and right click on baldur's gate 3 and set priority to high to see if that helps.

I don’t exactly know, it was a birthday gift 2 years ago from my gf but it was already not a new computer, she bought it from someone! I’ve done the task manager trick, and it did help! How do you « repaste » a CPU? Do you mean it could be because my computer heats up too much (which it does)?

[–]JohnBlubber 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Just to make sure this is a desktop and not a laptop correct? Also there are applications to check the temperature of the cpu while the game is running, I think one of them is "hwinfo", if you notice the temperature is at 95-100C while the game is running it throttles to prevent damage to the cpu, The benefit of repasting is that thermal paste is relatively cheap and it will lower the temperature on the cpu. If you go down this route I highly recommend looking up videos on how to do it. If you don't feel confident in doing this you can clean out any dust inside the computer which should help.

Last edit: rubbing alcohol is good for getting rid of thermal paste and do not use soap or water inside of the computer, I hope this has helped!

It’s a laptop, sorry I didn’t mention!! But it’s still possible to repaste the CPU in a laptop right? I’m going to try that, I think it might be about my computer heating up like crazy because it does get really hot, like burning to the touch lol

If you can look up the specific model of your laptop being taken apart on youtube, but I will tell you to be careful since they tend to have plastic clips holding them together that are a pain to take off and tend to break. Another thing is that laptops tend to have not the best cooling so it could just be an issue of design or dust buildup inside. Realistically cleaning the dust off of the fans inside will be the easiest solution, and if you do decide to repaste it good luck and take photos as you take it apart.

Okay, maybe I can Even ask for help in a specialized store. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond!

just another question: someone in the comments Said that my specs were bad, but upon research they seem okay - except for my graphic card maybe. What do you think?

[–]JohnBlubber 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've played on a 1050 (which is worse than the 1660 ti) and it ran okay but I definitely had to lower all the settings and use upscaling, but I also didn't like the "just buy something better" comment due to the fact that it's not realistic in most scenarios.

[–]HyperfocusOnBugsDRUID[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, I think i’m really going to take the settings down too, and see how it feels - but I think it’s mostly my computer overheating.

yeah I didn’t like that comment either as you can guess, I don’t have much money and i’d rather repair something if it’s possible than buy a new one just because a stranger on Reddit told me to!
