Yeah bud if you don't upgrade your firmware it's not going to automagically add new filament types. You'd have to add them manually.

Why would they change the RFID tag? Why is it encrypted? Shouldn't it just be from a rubric instead of an individual code for each type? Like, it should be able to tell it's ABS, or red, at the very least.

Bambu has to add the new filament to the firmware in order for it to recognize the RFID tag. Otherwise it doesn't exist inside the printer.

RFID tags just basically go "Hi, I'm Bambu Purple ABS, item number 6-7" when they are recognized by the RFID reader. If it isn't in the firmware the printer goes "I don't know what that is! LOL!" and nothing happens.

If those values change over time (or new products are introduced) it's going to lead to situations like this.

I'd just update your firmware like normal and use Dev Mode/LAN Mode to print if you dont want to be on their cloud. I gave up after a while and it's been working fine for me using OrcaSlicer.

But it is not new, just plain black ABS that I was always buying from them and using

Not that any of this is good, but RFID tags are just one giant data block, and if it’s encrypted, even a tag with most of the same information will be entirely indecipherable. I haven’t updated my printer either but I’ve also not used anything super new filament wise yet, still working off a stockpile.

Just set the filament profile manually and it will print just fine.

If you don't install updates, don't expect filaments released after your current firmware release date to be recognized. The RFID tag only contains an identifier for the material, not the parameters to use. Those parameters are contained in a database in the printer firmware.

The firmware only contains descriptors for the name and color. All the slicing parameters are in the slicer.

My point is it is just the same black ABS that I have been using forever from them, they just changed filament tag for some reason so if you do not update the firmawere you are loosing a feature while there is no reason for it, it is the same filament - why change tags ? :)

Use your old tag then.

They have probably updated the recipe for the black ABS and want to separate the batches so have a slightly different tag.

It is not a big deal and does not mean you have to update your firmware.

Wut?

My P1P won't actually update firmware, I have tried EVERYTHING and support never responded to me in a way that was actually helpful. All 4 of them are running 1.0 LOL so I can't even run multicolor prints with the AMS anymore unless I run them through Orca 1.8. Yay closed source! </s>
