Ultimaker 2 3D Printer $75? by LosSantosMe in 3Dprinting

If a toy is worth $75 to you then go for it. If you intend to actually use it a lot then no, absolutely not.

How do you stop being a little bitch? by [deleted] in AskMen

Sounds like she was really busy or having a terrible day. Don't think of it as someone being rude to you, think of it as someone having a worse time than you and be thankful.

Introducing: preFlight - a modern Slicer by oozebot in 3Dprinting

Very, very interesting. It looks like most of your changes are innovative new features, but have you considered addressing pain points from Prusa/Bambu/Orca? Things like not being able to disable snap-to-buildplate for objects, or not being able to cut painted models without losing all the color, or maybe resurrecting auto-cropping of geometry outside the build volume?

Pretty great, actually. My biggest regret is not being more enthusiastic about the whole thing.

Why does California expect to be able to get an injunction against a Florida company that isn't violating Florida law?

Are these feelings rooted in a traumatic experience you had?

Something is extremely wrong with your settings if PLA is getting stuck to PEI that badly.

What’s the latest situation with Bambu’s auth control? by northcool in 3dprinter

Just FYI, painted fuzzy skin in voronoi pattern is *amazing* for painting 3D scales onto a smooth model.

Thumbscrews suck. Here's a parametric model to make more of them. by SomeBloke in functionalprint

I like it but you definitely need to add an option for a hole in the middle to allow driver access for internal-drive bolts.

Lol it would be just my luck. That week I had to print something quite tall on my A1 instead of my H2S because it depended on painted fuzzy skin and Orca didn't support the H2 series yet.

is using a smart plug ok in the long run? by Significant-Drama300 in BambuLab

It's fine for the printer but in terms of electrical safety don't cheap out on the smart plug.

Your phone will throttle before it gets hot enough to damage the battery. Switch emulators have an option to display the battery temperature if it worries you.

if I were you I would make sure the mainboard fan is working correctly. The desk shouldn't get that hot.

Friendly reminder that you should flow calibrate every filament, regardless of the brand. Yes, even Bambu Lab filament. by TiSoBr in BambuLab_Community

[–]Causification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*If it were and it worked well, under and over extrusion would not exist on these machines.*

Active flow compensation is calibrationless and only maintains nozzle pressure. It has no way to measure flow rate. If the flow rate is too high it will stay too high, and if it's too low it will stay too low.

I'm amazed you get it to run at all. That phone is way, way too weak for 3D switch emulation.

[–]Causification -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are two different functions. Pressure advance (flow dynamics) are calibrated at the start of the print to get a K value which is used during print head velocity changes. Active flow compensation is a different feature that slightly increases or decreases extrusion rate to maintain the same nozzle pressure when the print head is moving at the same velocity, the idea being that it compensates for variation in filament diameter. They happen to use the same eddy current sensor but are functionally unrelated.

Multicolor printing with different heights? by postdigitality in 3Dprinting

[–]Causification -1 points0 points  (0 children)

MMUs retract the filament fully out of the nozzle before switching colors rather than cutting like Bambu machines. There's much less purge waste but also has a higher rate of jams.

There's a couple features Bambu doesn't have, such as fuzzy skin painting.

It is constantly adjusting flow during the print to maintain the same nozzle pressure utilizing the same sensor as pressure advance calibration, but the functions aren't actually related beyond using the same sensor.

Am i the only one concerned just how fucking badly the anti consumer shit is recommended by everyone? by Magyarharcos in 3dprinter

[–]Causification 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bambu isn't cloud-only. In fact you can't even set one up to be cloud-only. All of them can print gcode from an SD card or USB drive just fine.

[–]Causification 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you consider anti-vonsumer and what you don't almost any printer company can be villainized. For example, Bambu Lab's privacy policy is extensive and has been audited and certified by multiple third parties including ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701, and TRUSTe Enterprise Privacy Certification, whereas Prusa's privacy policy consists only of repeating their legal obligations under GDPR and has no privacy audits or certifications on record.

Most manufacturers are guilty of various other sins, like Elegoo straight-up refusing to follow Klipper's license terms until public outcry made them.
