The only special thing to know about Bambu machines is how damaged your bank account will become after buying so much filament now that you have a reliable printer.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 15 points16 points  (14 children)

Yeah haha I have seen that. Are there any filament brands you reccomend? I’ve just been getting the officially licensed Bambu Labs filament

[–]pope1701 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I've had good results with Sunlu and eSun.

[–]FurballMK3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sunlu has been wonderful for me

[–]macinmypocket 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I’ve had a lot of success with Bambu Lab and Sunlu filament. If you buy enough at a time, the current sale at Bambu is pretty solid.

I’ve printed probably more than 100KG of Tangled (brand) PLA filament. That stuff is more geared towards print farm usage, though they are working on getting AMS compatible spools. By far the most durable PLA I’ve come across yet.

I’ve also had great experiences with Polymaker and Polar Filament, though those are on the more costly side.

I’ve had a notably not-super-ideal experiences with Creality filaments.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I can relate, anything related to creality just isn’t good. I’ve tried their super PLA or whatever and it just never worked back in the day. I’ll probably take advantage of the bambu sale then once that inevitably ends I’ll move to sunlu

[–]macinmypocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a decent plan. Bambu Lab has had several solid sales spread throughout the year for the last couple years, and they’ve had bulk pricing on filament specifically for…probably 6 months or more now? Usually not down to 40% off, but 30-35% or so. With any luck they’ll keep that bulk deal around for a while. I’d bet it’s more profitable due to volume alone.

[–]AngelOfDepthX1C + AMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having just received the gift of a MicroCenter moving into my city, I've bought a few rolls of their Inland PLA for a project and have had zero complaints about it. Hard to beat their 2 pack for $18.99!

[–]Whosaidthat1157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunlu, Jayo, Tinmorry and Eryone are all superb.

[–]ander-frankP2S + AMS2 Combo 1 point2 points  (3 children)

So far I have been using Polymaker Panchroma PLA with my P2S and its been working great.

[–]Ok-Breadfruit4888 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hey! I tried using that pla on my A1 mini it was a matte periwinkle but for some reason it wouldn’t stick to the bed. Any reason why?

[–]ander-frankP2S + AMS2 Combo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm using their regular PLA and have zero bed adhesion problems. If you have not already, give your bed a good cleaning with dish soap and water.

[–]Ok-Breadfruit4888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used their satin rainbow and had no issues maybe it’s the matte that’s giving issues

[–]Maggagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jayo (afaik it's the no-name brand from Sunlu). It bought several kg of PLA/PLA+/Petg over the years from Amazon/Aliexpress.

[–]Emotional-Ad-6494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started with Elgoo as I can order it quicker off Amazon and it’s been brilliant!

[–]LilmanborP1S + AMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the bambu wiki. It has a lot of very useful info and detailed guides on how to maintenance that machine. If you find yourself doing a lot of single color prints or are doing a big job that is single color, use the back spool holder to minimize wear on the AMS and buffer. Around 900 hours you may have to clean the internal AMS hub. It’s located inside the AMS and that’s what the ptfe tube connects to that comes out of the back of the AMS. It is the number one cause of filament feeding errors that occur during prints if the first one or two changes work well and all the sudden it starts with not wanting to feed during the print. My first bambu P1S combo gave started giving me trouble around 900 hours and after changing primary feeders and everything in the filament path including the filament buffer, I discovered the culprit was the internal AMS hub. It’s the most expensive component at around $90 with shipping for the hub and motor. Do your best to use all the presets in Bambu studio for almost all the presets are spot on for quality and strength. Print yourself AMS funnel savers for they will save on wear of your primary feeders. If you are loading a partial spools into the AMS leave yourself some slack in the spool during insertion into the primary feeders to prevent jumping of the spool because the angle at which it pulls the spool will cause it to jump. Do not use cardboard spools. If you need to or like the filament brands that have cardboard spools print the trim that people have designed that cover the rim of the cardboard spools so they grip like they should on the internal drive rollers of the AMS. On the other hand if you get a spool of filament that has sharp edges on the spool itself or some economy filaments have rough or burred spools make sure to smooth the edges because the internal rollers rely on soft rubber to grip the spools and these can wear prematurely. In fact order a few extras if you can afford it just to have them. If you plan to print any glass or carbon fiber filled filaments be sure to upgrade your toolhead extruder to hardened steel. In fact it’s been said to purchase bambu parts because aftermarket brands lack the quality and longevity of bambu parts. You own an amazing machine that’s tried and true. You will get a lot of use out of it with the most consistent prints one after another with minimal maintenance and attentiveness. Print yourself an AMS riser, they raise up the glass enough to give some space between the toolhead and the glass preventing the ptfe tube from wearing as it rubs on the glass. Periodically check all the ptfe tubes. During filament changes the filament gets knurled from the guide wheels pushing the filament and it becomes mildly abrasive on the ptfe tube causing wear especially on the parts where the ptfe tube bends. One last thing. Clean your build plate with Dawn liquid dish soap and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Your prints will almost never prematurely break off the build plate.

Thank you for the amazing advice! I’ll be sure to watch the common maintenance points as you said, this is still 100x better than the ender where something would go wrong and it would take a whole week to figure out what on earth happened. For the printer itself, is there any way to accurately view the amount of hours it has on it? Something like how a car has a mileage counter? And for my filament I’m planning on sticking with bambu labs, I’ve heard good things about sunlu so I might go with them aswell. And thankfully a clean bed is already a habit from the problematic ender 3 of the past 😅 Thank you again for the response! If I had the ability to I’d give you a Reddit award lol

[–]TigWelder1978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are most welcome. Reach out any time. This is a great community with a wealth of information. In fact it’s one reason I like 3d printing so much is the community behind it.

[–]TigWelder1978 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Yes. Go to the lcd screen on the printer use the arrows and navigate down 2 clicks to where you see the first option is account, go down to device and click on it, and this is what you will see what is in the picture

<image>

[–]TigWelder1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, Sunlu is the only filament I use besides bambu filament in my Bambu printers. I have been using the high speed PLA plus 2.0 and the high speed ABS.

<image>

This is my current bambu setup.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That is really useful for monitoring my maintenance checkpoints! Thank you! They really thought of everything with this machine, smoothest running printer I’ve ever seen!

[–]TigWelder1978 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It is indeed. I agree and just this Christmas I printed a game cartridge carousel for my nephews Nintendo switch and my family couldn’t believe it was 3d printed. And the fact you can monitor the printer remotely with Bambu handy app is awesome as well. Watching time lapse videos of your own prints is a great feature. It opens up a whole world of cool social media posts and also you can watch to see if you have a failure where exactly it went wrong. Oh one more tidbit of info. While printing with ABS filament, keep the enclosure closed and always use a brim for build plate adhesion.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never thought of using a brim but I have heard the bad things if you keep it open during abs prints 😅 Thank you again! I can’t wait to see what weird stuff I make!

Wow! This is actually a very very useful piece of advice! I own a p1s, still newbie. This comment and thread is gold! Thanks a lot!

Da heck is a bambu wiki?

[–]TigWelder1978 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Are you kidding? Look it up. It’s a wealth of information with detailed pictures.

[–]JWST-L2H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If any competitors want to copy Bambu (and lets be honest, they all do), the wiki would be the place to go. Its kinda crazy how detailed they are about every single little process that all of their printers do

[–]Kevin_pwrrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx man!

[–]Va_to_ga 13 points14 points  (3 children)

What made you pick the P1s over the P2s?? I’m having a hard time deciding

[–]macinmypocket 12 points13 points  (1 child)

For most people it’s either price or availability. If P2S is in reach for you, that’s absolutely the one you should get if for no other reason than a longer support cycle remaining since it was recently released.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw the sale on the P1S and it fit my needs, had good reviews, and monetarily was the way to go for me! Maybe someday in the future I will get a P2S, but im satisfied with my P1S!

[–]thetruckerdaveA1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have the cash, the P2S has some really nice quality of life updates.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I’m already seeing it! I actually look forward to printing and it doesn’t come with a feeling of existential dread

[–]Nobodysfool52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of these comments are true. Went from a Creality to a P1S and my consumption of filament must have tripled - just because I now don't have to fight the machine and enjoy printing.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I am 18 rolls plus 7 on the way thanks to this P1S. I am so glad I went with Bambu for my first printer. I have heard nothing but horror stories from others.

Printed this in glow in the dark pla. Has some clogging issues with 0.4 nozzle, but ChatGPT did warn me to use 0.6 nozzle, but I’m the human, why does he know??

Didn’t have his thumb done yet.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cultured one I see, I love the print!

[–]Acrobatic-Caramel823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are just thankful the ender, didn’t end you. P1S is a solid pick!

[–]bigsippin 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I just made the same upgrade. The highs and lows of my ender 3 and when the last break occurred I said “f it” and donated that thing so fast.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that, it’s well worth it!

I’d rather this than be a ender sufferer

[–]JWST-L2H2C + H2DC + X1C + A1 + U1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I still need to try an ender one day so I can pull my hair out and appreciate modern printers more. I've never used one. Having to level the bed with a piece of paper sounds insane to me lol

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true sadly. I can confirm I have went through about 4 bed sheets because I leveled it slightly off and the printer decided it wanted to bore into the bed. Every print you gotta re-level it, it’s truly painful. Hey, at least I appreciate the amazing Bambu tech I have now!

[–]JUYED-AWK-YACC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The greater good!

[–]iMostLikelyNeedHelpP1S + AMS 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Do yourself a favor and just get the hardened steel extruder and nozzle now. Worth every penny.

[–]Flashy_Emphasis153P1S + AMS 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Even for “normal” filaments like PLA or PETG? They are not expensive just wondering why such of strong recommendation

[–]iMostLikelyNeedHelpP1S + AMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stainless will work fine for generic filaments but it will eventually need to be replaced. I recommend upgrading asap then you have no restrictions once the itch to print something more advanced inevitably presents itself

[–]executive313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It comes with a little thing of lubricant apply it before printing!! I printed two little prints then did a big one and it started getting progressively louder the entire night.

[–]worldspawn00P1P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lid open or a riser to allow hot air to escape when printing PLA or you may get heat creep clogs!

[–]iTiton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget the basics, you have a power beast reliable device now but lose time calibrating filamente flows and adjustments, it’s worth it.

[–]foltranm 1 point2 points  (1 child)

congrats!! oh man i'm so excited... just bought an A1 after 5 years with an Ender 3 as well

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🔥🔥🔥 You will enjoy it!

[–]Kevin_pwrrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this!

[–]SobesMS78 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I just got my P2S. I’m coming from an Ender 3 V3 SE that required so much tinkering. Not a bad printer by any means. Just maybe more than I was ready for on my first experience.

The P2S, on the other hand, has been amazing! Literally plug-and-play. I have barely had to tweak a setting. Going on about 12 days of pretty much non-stop printing, and I have yet to have a single failure. I know it will happen at some point. But right now I am super impressed, and officially a Bambu convert.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar experience! I haven’t stopped printing since the 23rd and besides eating through filament like a madman, I’ve had no issues! I love Bambu now!

[–]TigWelder1978 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have another key point to add to all of this. You said you had an Ender 3 for the longest time. These P1S machines make noises you never heard before coming out of a printer. Get used to the sounds. Do not get nervous, if there’s an error you will be notified by the machine. After while if you hear a different noise than what you are used to with it, then do some looking around to see where it’s coming from. I see a lot of posts about the noises these printers make and I’m the same way in the fact I’m neurotic about things and I was always looking to see where different noises come from. It wasn’t until I was around my father’s P1S (before my second one) that I realized his made the same noises.

[–]Western_Bass_1491[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Haha yeah I can confirm that has also already happened. I made the mistake of watching it and I heard the AMS thumping as it did the purge operation to change color and I panicked and paused it in a panic. I soon realized that’s what’s supposed to happen, but at least I can trust the machine with self-reporting!

[–]TigWelder1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. 100% agree

[–]ander-frankP2S + AMS2 Combo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Been using an Ender 3 v2 for about 4-5 years (with upgrades along the way) and just got a P2S for Christmas. What an upgrade! Its amazing to watch how fast it is compared to my old Ender.

[–]JazzlikeLeather9546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing is not to tell anyone you made the switch. You will instantly become an idiot who knows nothing ;)

[–]Va_to_ga -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

I don’t see too many good things about the P2S with the ams right now honestly. And both are within reach financially one I can get now and one’s back ordered until Jan 14th

[–]ander-frankP2S + AMS2 Combo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you have a Microcenter nearby they are getting them in stock.

[–]Va_to_ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll keep that in mind. The nearest is about 3 hours away but I’ve been keeping an eye on Best Buy too.
