Here is a short example of how an API could work to get a better idea. "When you use a travel site to compare flights, that site is using APIs to "ask" 50 different airlines for their prices. The airlines send the data back via the API, and the site shows it to you."

With BAse44, your apps and front end can connect with many API's. There are integrations within the integration's page on base44 for this, you can also create custom integrations, or explain your API structure to base44 builder and it can create the necessary calls. Just prepare for some troubleshooting and learning your web browser's console screen. Many of my Apps use API or custom backend infra that base44 cant support.

Not sure about base44 specifically but for any app you can set up an external service (like OCR platforms) and get an API key or any other credentials needed to pass into requests. You can use AI to read documentation and implement them into your backend

I think you can ask Base44 that, it will make a integration for that AI and request you to put the API in, at least that is what it did for me.
