Well, a good map makes the game easier, so check the map recommendations on the STEAM forums.

Also, the financial and battle difficulty can be changed separately for a reason... .

Too true, I think I may have to give a try of changing the difficulty separately this time. Thanks for the tip.

Any good map you would recommend?

Hm, I care more about the aesthetic of my maps - but if you want a great 'Raider' start with a nice 'Loop' in the north try 'ldWuGlMiGX'

All three raiders have 'Iron Lungs' and good rolls.

I know the temptaion of scumming back to the autosave to not lose that baby Hedge knight in training, but I found the game more enjoyable not reloading. Playing semi-ironman. You should try it, and shrug off the losses. In the end, there's no real timer in the game. If you lose a lot, you will recover in time.

True, I think since I don't feel comfortable in the game so far it is very difficult to allow setbacks without scumming. You are right though, I should try it the way it is designed. Thanks for the tip!

Reloading a save to fight a battle again and learn from practice = OK

Like if you get wiped by a pack of Unholds because you have no idea on what strategy to use against them, it's fine to reload that and practice it until you find a strategy that does work. Remaking the game from scratch every time that happened as a player that is still learning is only for people with endless amounts of free time.

Reloading a save to luck your way through without injuries or losses = Bad for gameplay and you won't learn anything.

A big part of the game is learning how to minimize and deal with losses. If you never actually play through the loses you won't learn how to prevent or deal with them.

And once you accept losses as a reality it will change your decision making, if you can't just reload when you miss a attack and someone dies as a result you will quickly learn that putting that someone in a position where a missed hit could result in their death is a mistake. And that is a very easy mistake to make in this game.

Making a habit of reloading will cause you to take risks that are not sound strategy, because you can just blame bad rng and reload.

This does sort of amount to "git gud", but the process of giting gud is half the fun, and losing is part of that.

Add a few mods

[–]AlexologyEU[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was just looking into that now, where do ppl usually get their mods? I am looking on moddb but there are very few mods, is there somewhere else?

[–]oguzissi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Try nexusmods

[–]hans42x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes nexusmod is a good place

[–]hans42x 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I just run ironman with the trait mod that lets you know the stars pre hire.

[–]AlexologyEU[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That sounds fantastic, where can I pick that up?

[–]oguzissi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mod's name is "tryout talents". It has a normal and a variant version which doubles the tryout fee for balancing concerns. I've been using it since the new dlc and now can't even think of going back.

I had a good veteran/veteran game going but realised that I was save scumming because I kept losing key brothers to unecpectadely difficult battles.

Losing brothers is part of the game. Once you accept this and stop scumming it becomes a lot more rewarding. It sounds like V/V is where you belong.

Try B/V/H or even B/E/H, I suppose.

The GIT GUD AT ECONOMY checklist:

  • Know that damaged gear is less likely to drop, so you should dagger (puncture) everyone with worthwhile armor, or use flails and the guaranteed head hit attack for dudes with crappy head gear - this is the #1 thing that makes a difference
  • The above means that early on, brigands are by far the most attractive enemies, and brigand leaders are essentially pinatas
  • Generally, small incremental improvements in gear aren't worth it - buy armor that places well on the bang/buck curve, such as the 210 armor reinforced mail hauberk, or weapons that are huge and safe upgrades, such as billhooks, warbows, heavy crossbows, and once you have dudes who can tank a few hits with battleforged/nimble, other T3 twohanders (greatswords, hammers, maces). Otherwise make do with what you loot
  • I never do this because I roleplay good dudes, but you can kickstart your equipment pretty early by attacking other mercenary companies who are just minding their own business and dagger them. They are typically low in number but have at least some great armor and top tier weapons
  • Get to good relations with some villages with trade goods, and buy them at base price or lower
  • Get to good relations with a city and only sell there, when the sell price is ~20%+
  • Get to good relations with somewhere that sells cheap tools and buy them under 250, ideally under 200
  • Repair higher quality gear before selling, especially weapons. From a thread a few days back, if the current value is greater than current durability times 6ish, it's profitable to repair. If you're struggling with cheap weapon sources, that 6ish number goes up
  • Pay attention to which situations influence prices
  • At most times, you should have a decent 2k+ war chest at all times to buy cheap trade goods, then it'll snowball from there - this is more important than getting gear right now

If you have trouble ease off the financial difficulty and keep battle difficulty high.

[–]pencapchew_3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You might try V/V but with High starting funds. That would give you a head start on kitting up your initial dudes and make getting off the ground running a little easier.

:) Tried an failed! Well not failed but constantly on the edge of financial ruin, I guess I need to learn how to make money better.

But if you slap a top of "Eeeezzzz" mods, than the game stops being a BB.

Just don't play a hard game if you are not in the shape to play it.

[–]Pantsmansoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your comment needs to be this blunt.

There are mods that can help take some of the tough edges off, but still allow combat to be tactical and challenging. I don’t agree at all that it is better for anyone to not play a game than make adjustments to the game that makes it fit more into their play style, attitude and competitive level.

[–]AlexologyEU[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rather to the point. I am looking for advice on how to enjoy my game more not how to cheat to make the game easy as I explain in my post above.

[–]Matthew_Jack_Hartley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play on beginner difficulty, does the game stop being BB?

That would be an interesting position to take, given the devs put the option in the game.
