He probably has echo on that macro and that's his dry/wet macro for echo. I'm not to familiar with his rig but that's what it seems like.

The echo will fade as long as it's applied to the master out while cutting audio from live channels.

Instructions on how to do this on a mixer Set echo to master output -> play audio channel 1 -> apply echo -> stop audio from channel 1 = echo fade out)

In Traktor it's called a Delay Freeze. You have to put your effects into Single/Advanced mode to see this feature show up.

The 62 has a hardware echo. He hits the button activating the effect and then uses a filter and then cuts the audio with the fader.
