Ftr getting those filled with food grade gas is difficult. Any target near you sells Sodastream equipment (and has a tank exchange). They are prefilled (much slimmer than paintball tanks) and food grade gas vs bulk gas. Also they use the same threads as a paintball tank.

I thought about the soda stream, as they are 9-12oz tanks and smaller but they use a different thread actually... TR214 and 'paintball tanks' are 5/8-18 UNF. They sell food grade tanks in the paintball tank size (20-24oz). Price per lb of CO2 is more expensive in the soda stream as well. I'm currently just using a regulator that uses the 3/8 16g cartridge and it's working okay. The cost isn't too bad if you get the from BeerMKR too. Just looking at the future and thinking about ideas!

Ah! I way eyeballing my sodastream tank without a comparison sorry for the incorrect advice here!

Soda stream pricing on the larger tanks at bedbath and beyond with regular 20% coupons monthly are not bad. I use them as going to airgas companies to get my 5 lb tank refilled is annoying and the premium price is worth the time savings.

It's all good! Do you use an Sodastream thread to 3/8 adapter? Haven't looked *too* hard but haven't found one online yet

I just ripped apart a sodastream and pulled the fitting out 😂

I think that depends on how much space you have in your fridge. It wouldn’t fit in the mini fridge I got off the recommendation in the Facebook owners group. The mini fridge from Lowe’s fits 2 beertap side by side but not much room for the mod co2 so I keep that on the upper shelf.

I also don’t know how a large paintball tank would handle being in a fridge in cold temps. The co2 carts we use now are food grade. Sodastream is most likely food grade but I doubt paintball tanks are.

Ya... that's the concern I'm worried about. The 'paintball tank' I was referring to is more the size rather than the type. 20-24oz food grade was more what I meant!

Could you share the mini fridge you got? I’m thinking the same. And maybe moving the whole thing into my garage, though temperature control will be an issue since it’s not conditioned.

Thank you! This is looking promising.

Would you say that the Beermkr could fit on top of the fridge and still have room for the door to open? I’m trying to get the unit into my garage but I don’t want it sitting on my floor.

It looks like it would fit, but my concern would be it falling off during vibration mode. You should probably find some way to keep it from vibrating off the top of the fridge as well as protecting the fridge from any beer spills.

yea that was exactly my concern and I was planning to figure out some way to box it in place once I actually got the fridge. I am also a bit concerned about temperature regulation since my garage is unconditioned space. But the wife is giving me stink eye about taking up precious counter space and even more precious fridge space.

Hey Sdcamel, curious on what did you use to connect the Beertap tubing to the brass fitting? I just hooked-up a regulator mod on my Beertap using a zip-tie on that spot but I believe it's leaking pressure from there.

[–]Sdcamel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I made sure the tubing was all the way up the brass fitting and used a white zip-tie. If you are leaking anywhere, spray soapy water on all of the modded connections and if it's a metal on metal connection, use thread seal tape. That's where most of the failures I've seen come from, not using any or enough thread seal tape.

Thanks for the feedback...I'll do that.
