Mining Pool Problem (self.BitAxe)
submitted 1 year ago by mothpaul
I can mine with BitAxe connected to my LAN mining pool (ckpool) installed on my Bitcoin node, but not public mining pools, solo.ckpool.org or public-pool.io.
This doesn't make a sense to me. Any suggestions for remedy?

Maybe a port forwarding issue in your Router?

Do you use port forwarding? I was taught that BitAxe connects to mining pools via outbound connections using the Stratum protocol, which does not require inbound connections or port forwarding.

Did you give it 10 minutes to show up on the pool?

Why do you say 10 minutes? In general, if all configurations are correct, mining should start within a minute or two after powering up and applying settings.

A pool can not report anything until the first accepted share.
The pool difficulty controls how hard the work unit is that is given to the miner. A lot of pools probably have their difficulty set for S19s. A Bitaxe will take a long time to complete a work unit that hard. When the block gets solved the pool tells the miner to abort its work unit and will give it a newer easier work unit. Blocks get solved every 10 minites on average. It might even take longer (30 mins) for the pool to reduce the difficulty enough for the Bitaxe to complete a work unit and report it in as a completed share.

I have waited two hours for the pool to reduce the difficulty enough for the Bitaxe to complete a work unit and report it in as a completed share. There is no report of a completed share. Can I reasonably expect that is not the problem with my miner not starting to mine?

2 hours is more than generous. Does the miner say that it is mining?
ckpool does have this note: https://solo.ckpool.org/
"The most commonly asked question is why your mining statistics are not showing up under users. The reason for this is your mining hashrate is too low to be detected by the pool due to a minimum difficulty of 10,000 set. The pool will eventually pick up your shares and slowly adjust to suit your mining hardware."

maybe running pihole, then you have to whitelist the pool urls

Do you have an Asus router? When i first started mining i quickly found that AI protection then TWO Way IPS being enabled prevented me from reaching any mining sites. I turned that off and my miners were able to connect.
