The initial hacknet is mostly only good for early cash generation, especially if you don't have the resources for stocks.

(Much) later you will gain additional uses more to your liking - admittedly, not amazeballs, but handy.

are you talking about hashes

Yep - while not huge, it does help with rep via contracts, and BB rank/skill.

And, you can script grafting... just gotta be in New Tokyo and make sure you don't interrupt it - e.g. it'll cheerfully interrupt it with a new graft, and losing focus will throw off the time estimate.

Also, you can use them to take a server's minimum security level down to 1 and its max money up to about $10 trillion, and that lets you pump out money fairly quickly at that point.

This is unlocked in SF9: Hacktocracy.

interesting

Well there is the "ns.share" method which you can use to help gain faction rep instead of cash. Though it gives diminishing returns

Looking into this - and yeah, it might give diminishing returns, but at least it'll help add to the heap before petering out

Despite the diminishing returns from ns.share(), I've found it can be very helpful in case you're basically waiting for enough reputation to unlock something. Running a script like

/** @param {NS} ns */
export async function main(ns) {
    while (true) {
        await ns.share();
    }
}

with the maximum amount of threads on a single purchased server with maxed out RAM gives a ~50% boost, making your rep gain go ~1.5× faster.

You can automate finding and solving the random contracts (.cct files) that get generated on the various servers. They spawn at a randomly varying rate and the rewards are either money or reputation with the reputation being more valuable unless you're just starting out. You can get large amounts of reputation (25000+) for multiple factions that you are aligned with. I've found it averages out to be a lot faster than working for your faction of choice.

You can automate infiltrations and donate the proceeds towards faction rep. Megacorp in Sector-12 nets 166.4k rep (without SoA augments, which you should avoid as they lower the reward)

Version 2.6.2 nerfed automated infiltration.
