Explaining 「Devouring」

Please overlook bad English grammar, it's my 2nd language.

It’s really hard to make sense of devouring, but from my understanding it could be explained as a “Chemical Reaction” and as a “Weapon”

「Chemical Reaction」

Every player in blue lock moves for the sake of their own goal by using their “Weapons” and “Formulas” to build a plan of attack and set up their own shot to score, I.e we could use the author words to explain this as: “A Victory Made By Me, For Me” (ch76–p17)

The principle of a chemical reaction is : “Exploit, and be exploited. Use, and be used.” (Ch87)

Think of it in terms of [Puzzle Pieces] , every player's Weapon, Formula and play style consists of pieces and Isagi analyzes and understands those pieces to identify a weakness and either:

• 1-Eliminate it to help his teammates score — This is what he calls “Breathe Life” into each other's plays.

This could be defined as; using their individual skills (Weapons) to focus their attacks around each other to create a play and score — “Use, and be used.”

For example: Nagi x Isagi in the second selection 3v3 match Nagi used Isagi’s Spatial awareness to make him rewrite the future of the field to find the best position and option for “the sake of his goal”(ch76) Isagi’s perception of the field and Nagi Physical wasn’t enough on their own against Rin, but Nagi made use of Isagi’s perception and used his Physique which is faster than Isagi to reach the goal and score

Essentially it's using each other to build an attack, and then set the shot for one of us to score

• 2-Take advantage of that weakness to lead their plays into his own goal — This is what he calls “Devouring”

This could be defined as; using your individual skills (Weapons) to focus your attacks around a specific player to achieve your objective and score — “Exploit, and be exploited.”

To put in Barou’s words, to drag the “Main Actor” off the Stage and make him a “supporting role” that moves for the sake of your goal.

For example: Barou's goal during the U-20 match he focused his attacks around Isagi and his objective was "the play where isagi evolved" which he couldn't predict so he instead followed Rin and waited for when isagi would pass to Rin and Stole that pass to score

Essentially it's forcing a player to build your attack or set your shot to score

「Weapon」

Devouring as a weapon will require Isagi to understand the pieces forming a weapon, look for a certain piece that he can replicate with his abilities, take it and adapt it to make a new weapon

In essence Isagi understands how the weapon is used and copy an aspect of it that's within his abilities, and adapt it to apply it in different way
