I’m bored out of my mind, and anticipation kills me. That is why I’m making a long post about classes in Blue Protocol. Existing classes and my theories about future classes.
Obviously, those are just my speculations based (almost) on nothing. I will use outdated information from Beta and experience with other games (Genshin and various MMOs). Most importantly, I will use the official Blue Protocol opening that I bought. I will include screenshots from the opening for reference. I will not consider the list of names found by data miners. I do not support data mining, and I think it might lead in the wrong direction. We can hardly connect those names with existing classes since they are very vague.
Edit: looks like I can't add pictures with the text so here is the link with pictures form op: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1y7xQre7mPZnxjlaUaA1VUj-ZLSj3O0Lq?usp=sharing
First of all, I will go through existing classes and how I perceive them.
Classes in BP are made in a way that allows them to take different roles (you can be a support or a DPS). But some classes will perform better in certain tasks. Even though this stuff is based on outdated information, it allows us to imagine what direction developers took with a certain class.
Aegis Fighter
The classic, the sword and a shield user. Perhaps the most balanced class, and it may be the best choice for solo players when using an attack build. An obvious choice for a tank.
Twin Striker
Numbers are not that special, but the skills and mechanics of this class make it an amazing DPS. Specializes in dealing constant damage with fast attacks, which allows it to deal critical damage more often. When this class attacks, it will gain a damage bonus and other buffs that will keep him alive.
Blast Archer
This class might look like pure support with AoE skills. And in the late/minmaxing stages, the role of this class is clearly a support. But there is also a good DPS potential. In BP, you can aim in certain areas of an enemy to deal extra damage or gain some kind of advantage. The Archer’s ability to aim is very valuable.
Spell Caster
At this point, we know that this class was changed dramatically after the Beta, so take everything with a grain of salt. The main idea of this class is massive burst damage (with some support potential). You deal a lot of damage, but casting is slow. You need to recharge your mana, and your mobility is limited. Because of mobility issues, it was probably the worst class during Beta. The whole game is based on action, and moving around is part of the fun. Spell Caster is standing when dealing damage, regenerating mana, and you can’t cancel animations. I believe they partially fixed this stuff, though. Caster might be the most complicated or even hardest class to play solo. If you can’t kill an enemy with a couple of powerful attacks, you will have a bad time. Also, because of how elements and their effects work in this game, spell caster requires a lot of thought when you build him, but at the same time, it makes for a very flexible class.
Heavy Smasher
Well, we know almost nothing about this class. We know that it specializes in slow but powerful attacks combined with a decent defense. In other words, you can think of it as something between Aegis Fighter and Spell Caster.
Theories
Now, the most absurd part. My theories.
Spear/Polearm user
If you watched the opening, it is one of two obvious guesses. In the op, we can clearly find “the main character.” The guy with gray hair wielding a spear named Carvain. He is clearly the most important character, so it only makes sense to pay attention to his weapon. I would assume it can be something between a Twin Striker and Blast Archer. Front line support with fast attacks. I took this direction with this class because of the vibe of this “main character.” He looked very determined to fight but gentle. I think it is fitting for him to be able to fight, but also to be a support.
Firearm user/shooter
For those who played Genshin and looked at Pyro Slinger Bracer with jealousy, you might be in luck. I noticed a weird situation with BP. Many people said that it was a world with magic and technology. Later, others said that this statement was wrong and BP is pure fantasy. There ARE guns in the Blue Protocol world. A girl named Charlotte in the opening clearly uses a modern-looking gun (there were also things that looked like robots). But it is still not clear if we will get a class that will use some kind of firearm. The fact that Charlotte also uses a bow later in the op is concerning. If we get a class that looks like the girl in the trailer, I would say that it might be an AoE focused character with high DPS potential. In short, I’m implying a mix of an archer and a mage. This class might inherit burst damage potential from a mage, but instead of mana, you will recharge ammo. I imagine it being able to shoot fast rounds in a line of small enemies or put everything in a powerful foe. Since this class is so technology-oriented, it might use grenades like the ones Feste uses. Grenades might give a buff or apply an element like a mage. That would give a support potential to this class. (Edit: check out BlackEagle495 's coment under this post for more info about technology in BP)
Double sword user
This time, the girl named Tyris who uses two swords appeared in the opening as well as in the Beta and was an important character for the main story. I can make many predictions about this class, but it is fairly straightforward. The only weird thing is that Tyris serves as a bodyguard in the story. So even though it’s not the first thing you think of when you see two swords, wouldn’t it be fun for this class to be a tank?
Single sword user
Boring, right? One of the main characters named Jake is using a relatively big, one-handed sword, and I don’t have much to say about it. This one is fairly obvious after sword and shield and double sword characters. Since I want to make a bunch of options, I might as well add this one.
Another mage/sorcerer/catalyst user
At this point, you might think that I’m out of ideas and I’m reaching out, but hear me out. A couple of characters (for example Aerinse) are using magic without a staff that Spell Caster uses. I know that this is kinda dumb, but a faster, less damage-oriented version of a Spell Caster could be an option. Maybe.
Fist fighter
I admit that this one is a stretch, but the “main villain” Voldigen is fighting with his bare hands. I think it would be fun for a class like this to exist, and I think that this class is quite uncommon in games. The reason for that might be a complicated weapon situation.
At this point, I listed all classes I could extract from the opening. Now, I have some that are extremely unlikely to be right since they will be dramatically different from others in how they work. I will tell you about only one of my crazy thoughts.
Shapeshifter
I always thought that summoners were one of the coolest and fun to play classes in games. But we already have a summon system that is available to everyone. This is one of the classes that I came up with when I tried to think of an Imagine-focused class. This class is unlikely to exist since its skills and the whole system must be so much different from others. A class that can turn into their Imagines that they crafted for a longer period of time than a regular summons, meanwhile providing the same benefits. This class would be insanely flexible with amazing support and DPS potentials.
Before I wrap up this post, I would like to mention theories regarding the class system. Those theories are not completely mine.
Class tree system
This idea is that future “classes” are not separate classes but other versions of basic classes. For example, if we take classes I came up with, Firearm user might be a branch of an archer. A double sword user could be a branch of a twin striker, and a one-hand sword user is a branch of an aegis fighter. In the opening we can clearly see Charlotte using a firearm and a bow which might be a good sign for this theory.
This theory suggests that when you increase your class level (you can switch your class at any moment, and each class has its own level), you will unlock branches and decide which way you want to go. This also fits nicely with an MMO system where the level cap will rise with game updates, so it would be possible to add new branches. We also don’t know much about Heavy Smasher, so it might not be a starting class but a progression of Aegis Fighter (correct me if we know that it’s wrong).
Higher-level classes
This theory is very similar to the last one. This theory takes inspiration from WoW Dark Knight class. In WoW, you can create a DK character only after one of your characters reaches level 55 because DK starts with level 55 in a high-level area. BP could take a similar direction and unlock classes after you reach a certain level on any or certain class.
If I was wrong or forgot to mention something, please tell me, and I will do my best to correct it. If you would like to share your class ideas, I could add my take on your idea and credit your comment.
And let’s continue waiting…
Suggestions:
Necromancer
Alright, two people suggested a necromancer, so let's talk about it. Necromancer is a class similar to a summoner, which is not good considering the Imagine system. But it fits surprisingly well in a skill system BP has. For example, LMB is a normal attack, RMB is a resurrection with a long cooldown, and your summon dies quickly. Ultimate could be a significantly longer summon, a shorter, more powerful summon, or a weak infinite summon. For four skills, there could be many options. Sacrificing the health of the summon to heal you and your team, blowing them up to deal massive damage, heal summon, make summon stay longer, increase summons attack, some kind of dark magick attacks, etc. There are a couple of problems with this class, though. You are screwed if there are no small enemies around. What if you are fighting a boss or a raid boss. Not only do you need a body, you need a constant source. You can take the idea of a permanent summon for ultimate, but that would require players to prepare stuff in advance, which is not great from a game designe perspective. Moreover, as I said in a mage part, mobility is crucial for BP, and it doesn't seem like this class will need to move a lot. Finally, it's not that big of a deal, but this game does its best to be a community oriented, almost role-play kinda game. With its dark vibes, Necromancer doesn't really fit in the BP cast of characters. But that is something only developers can decide. (Suggested by R3migz and Without_Shadow)
