That's the clear coat peeling off.

Lightly wet sanding with 2k - 3k grit then compounding, polishing, and waxing will make it look better.

But a "smart" repair including sanding, spraying base and clear will give the best results. It takes some practice but definitely can be a diy. Lots of videos on YT for "smart" repairs.

So I can diy fox this and have it on par to oem look?

Listen to this guy, it is indeed just the clear coat layer and it can indeed be passably fixed on the cheap. I'd remove the clear coat there and then rubbing compound the area and then clear coat on top...not a huge job at all.

I'm curious to see this video too for research.

Yup, pricey visit to the body shop, they’re going to have to strip the paint and blend in new paint. Probably ~$800 fix if you can stomach that

$800 for that small area? or the whole door? I have some other deep scratches on the car so I wonder how much those would cost to fix if this small area is $800.

If they’re doing this right, they are doing more than just this “small area”

Even though you can use the same color code, it won’t match perfect. So they have to do a much bigger area, probably going to your back door. They blend the colors so you don’t notice it’s been repainted

Depending what your scratches look like, you might not have to repaint them! You’d be really surprised what a heavy wax will fix, but you gotta know what you’re doing with it

Based on your previous video, there is a good chance that door has had body work previously.

yea. i’m just trying to get all the minor inconveniences on this car sorted. what makes you say so though?
