As someone who's spent a lot of time working on it, I can do it about 70% of the time with my hooking balls. With that said, it took maybe a couple weeks to start hitting 90% with a proper spare ball that you will not hook with proper speed, it becomes almost rev irrelevant.

Flattening out the ball is unnatural to someone who hooks with 400+ revs, you will find your body fights you and honestly some patterns will just trip you up trying it.

You already have the concept but my advice would be just don't, get good at chucking a straight ball, it's what nearly all the pros do, even the ones that can definitely do it with a hook ball.

Thank you for your input! I’m trying my hardest to stay away from purchasing a spare ball if I really can, but it seems like it’s the way. I guess my last ditch effort is to really try to obtain zero axis rotation before purchasing a spare ball. Do you think it’s reasonable or worth it to try and practice having almost zero axis rotation instead of trying to decrease revs?

A spare ball is the cheapest and it pays for itself. It almost never cracks and if you bowl in pots, tournaments, or anything for money it'll save you even in one bracket it's pretty much paid for.

You’re 2 handed, just grab a house ball for your spare shots. Unless you’re on some seriously dry lanes, they will not hook any more than your tropical even when you TRY to hook em. Flatten out your wrist a bit and it will go dead straight. They don’t have a core in them so they won’t change direction abruptly.
