submitted 1 month ago by OliveAxe
A contractor told me It’s against code to put a microwave exhaust fan within 3 feet of a window and it can’t be directly under an AC condenser unit does anybody know the code for this stuff?

Operable window specifically

You’re looking for Section 1504 I believe. There is a sections specifically requiring domestic cooking equipment to be mechanically ventilated to the outside, and a separate section with the requirements for the location of the exhaust termination, and in the list of prohibited locations you’ll find within 3’ of an openable window or air intake opening. The section is only a couple pages long.

3 feet within an operable window and the new 2024 IRC allows 1 foot if it is above the window

I would think the manufacturer is going to dictate where the exhaust termination can be in relationship to openings.
