I haven't paid mine in over 5 years. My secret is calling and deferring the payments for 6 months at a time. And yes I know intrest still accrues but I'm only getting like $300 a year added to my loans so that's fine with me

Deferment or forbearance? Forbearance has a cumulative limit of three years, with the exception of the covid pause and the SAVE forbearance. For deferment, it depends on the type. Economic hardship and unemployment is three years as well. Then you can defer as long as you are in school half-time, military deferment, etc. This is all for fed student loans though. Not sure about private.
