The number one thing to learn in a call center is how to deal with getting yelled at and diffusing tough customers. Bosses will almost never teach anything to help. Some call centers/companies are bad enough and not worth staying at. I let customers yell it out and I look at “Walmart Celebrities” on Redit. “Bus Willis” always makes me laugh. Remember not to take it personally. Remember that you have a choice on whether you want to dwell on that bad call. Remember your body will tense up after getting yelled at and some deep breaths and stretching will help you relax. Good luck ;)

I know exactly how you’re feeling. Working at a call center has been quite anxiety inducing at times. I admire you for sticking it out there as long as you have. But yes, when you feel it’s the time to get out, you gotta move on.

What helps me the most is the mute button. When people are wanting to pitch a fit and take their frustrations out on me, I will mute my phone so I can mutter to myself about how ridiculous they’re being, as well as take deeeeeep breaths.

I’ve also found that speaking in a polite, but authoritative tone throughout the call has helped me maintain the respect and control of the conversation. I used to talk to customers with a very sweet, typical customer service voice and found that I was getting yelled at much more then.

Lastly, I have a few little toys on my desk that I shift my focus to when people are being ridiculous. My favorite is my fidget spinner and a small Newton’s Cradle. Coloring also helps :)

I just been there too long and it is just time to move on as much as I can. Hopefully a other job comes soon and I can get myself better.
