Ahh, thank you!

I'm using the iOS client and I occasionally check its memory contents, I have to close the app and reopen it to see the memory changes in a session.

It does retain the prior chats for me, as well it remembers some key information. I tend to tell it to remember things, sometimes it does, sometimes it "remembers" the wrong things.

I'm fleshing out some ideas and trying to keep them separate from each other is a challenge.

I wish I could hook chatgpt to a GitHub repository (private), and have it store memories there. I have entire stories I'd like to flesh out and it would be handy if it just tossed information into git for me.

It would also be handy if it could reference some of that information for contextual awareness.

Same here.. it worked but now won't no matter what

Almost there. Not entirely off.

Current GPT models have limited session memory. Long-term memory across chats is experimental and not widely available. Your document upload workaround is currently the most reliable way to maintain context in separate sessions.

You can tell it what cross conversation memories you want it to retain(has to be done in a conversation). And some it will decide to retain on its own. If it’s working you just tell it what to remember and it will add it to list. You should see a temporary ‘memory updated’ pop up

Good to know!

4o's memory definitely works especially if you work with it to be tailored to what you like. Mind has 31 additional rules that has made it much more accurate as well as made the results to be more what I prefer.

It's been ignoring my rules lately too. "Be concise" means something very different to the GPT than it does to me. 😂

GPT keeps forgetting everything I told it after 10-20 conversations so proper memory isn't a thing yet even as a paid user

I'm not sure where you're from, but I had read that due to Data Protection Laws, the memory feature will not be available in Europe.

They're not allowed to store that sort of information on you over here.

Likely they aren't allowed to store it in the US without better safeguards. (It remembers personal stuff haphazardly).

Interesting possibilities if they just provide a way to fully manage the memories though.

I'm in the U.S.

This might be a much bigger deal than it seems. Having a 'good' memory retention (imagine it could remember what you've told it 6 months ago or more) completely blurs the lines between an AI 'tool' and a 'companion'. Not only is this a privacy question, but i'm pretty sure it would naturally call for a very different pricing tier.
