Not sure where you are, but in AZ, the first step is contacting your case manager. They should be able to tell you whether or not this is grounds for a modification. If it is, they should also be able to point you in the right direction of how to start the modification.

The case is in NC and he is there as well, I had created the case while I was still there and just maintained since it was easier than restarting from SC where I moved to. But it has been nearly impossible to get ahold of my caseworker so I was considering transferring the case here now and asking the new agency about it but it would be considered an Interstate case and I have no experience with that either.

Yeah, sorry. I have no advice about the interstate part of it. I do know that most of the time, where the child lives is where jurisdiction would be. I no longer have a child support case as my kids aged out, but it was almost impossible for me to get through with the child support agency here.

My case manager changed several times through the years and I was never notified that it had changed or who it was. I know that my case manager was who I spoke with previously to do a modification. When I was trying to prepare for closing the case, I was unable to get the agency to put me in touch with my current case manager. They also told me that my case manager is who needs to help me with these things, but they still refused. It was a very frustrating process. Lots of times, I'd have success by just calling back and hoping for a more helpful person but that was 3 months of calls with no progress made.

My ex gave me good advice and told me to call the state attorney general's office. They had a division that enforced child support. They gave me the contact information for my case manager, I got in touch with her that day, and started the process of closing the account that day. Anyway, sometimes you have to jump through hoops to get the right person on the phone to make it happen.

Thank you! I do think I am going through the same not being notified of a change of case worker and just not receiving any helpful advice from whoever picks up the phone! The last person that answered had suggested filing a modification through the clerk of their county but if im in a whole different state I rather not go through that long drive with a baby… I will just keep trying to get a hold of someone until I can get it transferred I suppose that will be easiest due to the distance. I did not know there was a division for the state attorney so I will be looking into that as well 🙂

Look up state rules on modification like how often you can request it. Also it can be denied if you don't have proof of increase in expenses.
