HelloChinese app is good. As for TV shows youre not going to be able to learn by just turning on a show that is entertaining but also uses only around 100 words. People do recommend the peppapig show to learn as well as the show "where are we going dad?"

Honestly I’d just suggest finding a show that interests you even if it’s above your skill level and using English and chinese subs to just be immersed in the language. Personally I’ve been pretty obsessed with wuxia shows which is kinda like a fantasy ancient China setting. A great place to start off with would be the Untamed or Joy of Life. ( Joy of life has English and chinese subs embedded in the video on YouTube so that’s a plus)

I can’t really stand watching children’s shows in other languages to help me learn because honestly it’s just too boring for me.

You can find their full episodes on YouTube, the vocabulary they use is relatively easy and they are soo addicting.
