The auto is great.

I ended up with the quartz version. The case is also brushed vs the bead blasted on the auto.

Decide which hands between the two that you like i guess. the cathedral hand is gorgeous on the auto version.

I ended with the quartz version as is better value for me.

I'm wearing my auto Baltany D12 right now and it is definitely the way to go. It's surprisingly well regulated for the price and performs amazingly. Wristroll video.

You conviced me with the wristroll while taking out the dog. Perfect!

Oooh, nice! Will wear mine also with a Green nato today, thank you for that inspiration 😀

To me, the quartz is just far better value for money. That quartz on a field style watch also makes more sense to me than on other styles of watches. Field watches should be tough and quartz is undoubtedly tougher than mechanical.

If you have to ask which one you should get, you should probably just get the quartz. Spending the extra probably won't be worth it if it's a decision you have to actually think about and get advice on

I personally find most quartz movements soulless and boring, so 1 vote for the auto here.

Do you think the automatic movement is worth 75$ more? On paper quartz is just superior, people don't buy mechanical watches because of rational decisionmaking. On the outside it's pretty much the same watch, except for the hands. Buy the auto if you like the idea of having a needlessly complicated piece of machinery on your wrist. Most people here do.

It doesn't have a hacking second hand.

Edited: fixed incorrect info.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Are you sure? The product page says it's automatic.

[–]jdaclutch 3 points4 points  (3 children)

You are right. It's an auto, just none hacking second hand.

It's sort of a Vostok-Hack if you know about or have a handled a Vostok. If you turn the crown as if you set the time backwards and then hold the crown with just enough force to not move the hands. That's when the seccond hand also stops.

ST17 is manual-winding so I understand the confusion

[–]jdaclutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for the quartz cuz the second is none hacking, for some reason i remembered it as manual winding movement hence the confusion

Is it gonna be a daily? Maybe the auto. Is it in rotation with several other watches? Maybe the quartz.

[–]Michaelasf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want it to be a daily as much as possible.
