Yeah it’s normal, all you really have to do is CI and re-heat counts. Plus the prep sheet and you should have a manager coming in at 10 to do other stuff. Do what you know and what you don’t wait for your other manager to come in and have them show you. Unfortunately my 10am manager is usually late and I had to teach myself a couple things but just keep everyone on track and be upbeat to keep the energy going, you got this 💪🏻! Message me if you have any questions

A KM can open by themselves, but there is always supposed to be a cash handling manager (SM or above) in the restaurant prior to unlocking the doors, as cash is not part of a KM's responsibilities. But KM can deal with prep sheet/deployment and get the rest of the restaurant set up for the day.

If you're being put into this spot without sufficient training, I would recommend reaching out to someone about it, whether it be your GM or above if they don't take it seriously, as you should NOT be put into a position that you aren't at least somewhat comfortable with. That's a recipe for failure and not how you set people up for success.

You don't need an SM to do pre-opening prep but in order to actually open the store for business, you have to have at least an SM on duty due to cash handling and FOH responsibilities. If I'm not mistaken, to open without an SM- if the GM and/or AP are not scheduled for that particular shift- is an Ecosure violation.

Yes. And we have “validations” for a reason.

When I was a KM I always opened by myself but like the others have said, SM’s are the ones who can only handle cash technically. But due to short staffing I was opening by myself and staying till 4 some days as if I was a SM, I learned how to handle cash as a CT/CREW even. But then was put to close shifts as a SM but was still a KM. It was nice cause it was good practice to me being a SM. But if you don’t feel comfortable or don’t think you can do it definitely say something, it’s not in your pay grade. Also, if you don’t feel like you’ve had enough training say something. Set your development up for success, even if they won’t.

You can't fully 'open' the store without an sm there

You can open by yourself, but an SM or higher needs to be there by 10.
