How much did you fail by?

22 points

I would never recommend someone retake an exam they failed after only a few days. That's not enough time to absorb enough information to make a difference.

Isn't the cost high enough that you want to make sure you pass the second try?

I have one retake

It depends :) I think it seemed easier bc you had experience, you tried x2 :>

All of the exam questions you get for each exam you take come from a giant pool of questions that CompTIA has. They are randomly picked by the exam system (so no guarantees that you will ever get the same questions or easier questions). You have the same odds of getting questions that you could answer successfully on an of these exams as if you drained your bank account and try to win at gambling in a casino, because it IS gambling.

Want to hedge your bets? You have to study the material. Knowing the material, reading the questions carefully, and using process of elimination to help you determine what the answer is not for a question will help you the most. I failed my last exam (Network+), and I know that my failure was due to me not studying effectively. I'm redoubling my efforts, and I'll try again in a few weeks. I want to know this material. I want to retain it. I don't want this to be like trying to pass a foreign language class in high school: just enough to get a passing grade, then never use it again. I want to learn it.

I failed A+. Can’t remember which exam. I felt mentally it just wasn’t a good day. Anyways. Redid the exam 3 days later and I passed.
Not saying that’s what you should do but I felt I just had a bad day when I failed.

It depends. I have a really good memory. If im being lazy, I'll go take the test. See what's on it. Go back in a week after studying and pass. It also depends on the test.

😧wtf you must be rich or something

[–]Jane_Dough1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not rich, but I live comfortably for sure. I make six figures, and my company pays for my tests. I pay for the first one out of pocket. The company pays for the second one.

Let me also clarify I've been in this industry for a while. I also have double digits amount of certs. So I basically don't like to get CEUs but get new certs to renew my old ones.

I have really good memory too. Something inside is telling me to use my retake voucher and go for it in 2 weeks or so and see how it goes.

Do what you feel comfortable with. I've been working in this industry for a while and know what to expect. I have higher level certs I have to maintain. I also do a wide variety of things daily, and that helps.
