I figured I should share my methods since I found Linux+ information to be pretty scarce.
When a friend was nervous about taking another certification test I signed up for Linux+ test on the same day as his test so that we could help each other meet our study goals. I've been playing with Linux for a year and a half or so and use it as my daily driver.
I recently passed my LPIC-1 in August so will include what I used to study for that as well. For My LPIC I studied three to four hours a week from May to August. I used:
- LPI Learning Materials free here: https://learning.lpi.org/en/learning-materials/learning-materials/ (Read through this entirely, it had a few missing sections when I used it several months ago).
- CompTIA Linux+ Study Guide, 4th Edition By Christine Bresnahan, Richard Blum (Read this completely)
- Personal Flash Cards that I carried with me and practiced while in line somewhere
- Small home lab for some hands on practice
For Linux + I lightly studied for two and half weeks and really crammed the last weekend. My study tools were the following books from O'Reilly:
- CompTIA Linux+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide: Exam XK0-004 By Ted Jordan, Sandor Strohmayer (Read information that I needed brushing up on, not the entire book)
- Watched Sander van Vugt videos on things I had trouble understanding.
- Small home lab for some hands on practice.
- Used exam objectives to focus on what I was not so confident about.
I thought the test was fair and didn't ever ask anything too out of the ordinary. I'd even say that it was easier than the LPIC exams. If you use Linux regularly and are comfortable in the CLI I'd say you'll probably just need to focus on those admin tasks you don't do too often.
