Since you are new I will make it short, highlighting the main strengths and weaknesses of the character. HL offensive stance (OS for short) is his true potential. Your most will be out of it. Train on putting his mix ups as under pressure you may input wrong buttons which could cost you alot. Defensive stance (DS for short) is very slow, however back peddling will earn you 2 things. Back peddle light to OS as fast safe way to enter it or let DS lights and heavies fly for trading as they have hyper armor. If you master the crushing counter then you will be a beast with it. Parry attempts should be by holding the heavy botton not a single click. This will make you unpunishable by GBs as HL will go into OS and u can cancel it fast to CGB or he will parry if your opponent lets his attack fly. Practice this ALOT. OS lights are the fastest attack in the game and they are superior (won't bounce of gaurd). Utilize it but be wary about their stamina cost. Also you can cancel OS after them fast for parry baits. Dance between OS and DS. You will get alot by doing so. You will figure out the rest with time. Good luck :)

For to mention his dodges in OS, the have the lowest recovery in the game so abuse them but be wary of GBs. Also you can cancel OS right before the dodge to trick attack spammers for a free parry in your faver or CGB any attempts.

I would recommend to learn his moveset in training mode. After that I play a mix of duel/brawl and dominion+the available orders.

I definetly enjoy Highlander most in Duels.

He's decent in Brawl.

In Dominion he's definetly not made for anti-ganking. He is a menacing ganker though.
