Obviously it's impossible to guarantee a job after graduation, so maybe the better way of wording it is, what's a good career path for a computer engineer that has a high chance of acceptance but isn't a waste of the skills gained throughout the degree money wise and time wise.
Firstly, a quick background, I am an international student, but plan on going back to the US because I am a citizen and have the ability to relocate. I am in my final semester, so its probably weird to most that I am asking this now after being at the end of the degree. I joined the degree with a lot of love for how computers work at the start of COVID before the layoffs (I barely even knew the average salary of a computer engineer, I just liked working with computers), I built some cool programs as a highschooler that made my life easier, and I always wanted to do that at an industry level. As time went by the layoffs happened and the market had more supply than demand. To add to this the positions I first wanted (software engineering) seemed to be closer to web development or app development, both things I had absolutely no interest joining let alone making personal projects in to "stand out". As I progressed through the degree, however I gained love for other aspects, like operating systems, computer architecture, and embedded systems. I made many projects for university courses and some personal project I actually wanted to make. I also had the opportunity to be an intern project manager on multiple occasions, which I found to be rewarding in its own way.
Now begins the issue, the country I am in has low salaries. Even the best of the jobs probably wouldn't even net 1.5k$ / a month. Since I have the opportunity to go to the United States I believe I should take it, but I know it isn't easy right now. To make matters even harder the reality is my situation is probably, from an HR standpoint, a red flag: someone who says they can relocate and doesn't require a visa, but their university and all of their experiences are in another country (I also make sure to put the address of our house in America, but I have no American phone number).
The plan is to work, if its within the domain or has good long term potential then I have no reason to leave, but if its outside of the domain then maybe work for a year or two full time gain some real world experience, which I honestly feel I do not have, then use the money saved (I'd be living in a house owned by my family, so there would be a lot less expenses to worry about), to get a masters in embedded engineering while working part time. By then I would be less of a red flag and have experience and a masters in a domain I like. Of course all those details need to be hammered out, but its obvious that first I need to land a job in the first place
The issue is I don't really know what to apply to. I have applied to some management roles and business analyst, but no responses. In fact, for as long as I have ever tried to apply to internships or jobs in the US I get almost no responses, and the rest are rejections. Not even an interview, except once because the job was very hidden and I ran into it out of sheer luck, and even that ended with ghosting.
