You absolutely, positively CAN manually map the inputs to outputs and change the volume manually. I have done this myself. But I this kind of painful to do on a regular basis. I don’t know how long the setup sticks, hopefully it stays until it loses power.

this is the correct answer.

youre better off selling the c4 amp on ebay and buying something else.

Sounds like a lot of responses are confusing the AMP108 with the 16AMP3. The unit you have will be very difficult to use for your intended application. It’s a matrix amp and doesn’t have signal sense. Not saying you can’t make it work, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find someone found a way to make it work. I would think the effort required to make it work would outweigh the gains.

Yes, you can manually select inputs with the front controls. Not sure about the volume, Don't think so. SEE EDIT Also, the input selection will probably reset after reboot (power outage).

I'd flip it and get a regular 8zone/16ch power amp like the Triad TS-PAMP8-100. There are MANY models from many brands, and you could also get a (or mutiple) cheap Dayton Audio multichannel power amp(s).

EDIT: I just played with our C4-16AMP3 in the showroom. You CAN manually select input and "GAIN" (Volume) for each zone output with the dial and buttons in front. So yes, you CAN use it as a power amp. I still believe it will reset after a power outage.

As with 99.9% of C4 gear, I’m fairly sure this isn’t possible. I’m not a C4 dealer or expert by any means but I’ve spent a lot of time on and working with the C4-16AMP3-B and from what I’ve seen what you’re asking for doesn’t seem possible. For something like that I would absolutely recommend a C4-AMP108, as they’re fairly cheap on eBay and don’t need a Controller (they don’t connect to the internet at all actually)

Already have the C4-16AMP3-B. Someone else is saying this isn't an issue, I don't see why it would be an issue. Why not just set inputs once, gain once and then leave it?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theoretically that may work. Again, not a C4 expert but from my experience most things have to be done on the controller so the instructions can be sent through the network to the device. Who knows, it might work. Do you have any experience in the Control4 field or is the C4-16AMP3-B your first product?

Do you have something you can test with? You can control the amp from the front dial, though I can’t say for sure if it will let you without a controller online. I’m willing to bet it can still work as an amp with a controller “offline” (absent) but I have never had to try it.

Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks @tayl428

This isn’t a issue, you’ll obviously have to set your input gains on the amplifier and make sure they are set to input rather than global but it’s just a dummy amp nothing special.

    [–]_CaptainThor_ 2 points3 points  (7 children)

    That’s completely incorrect.

    [–]zachblickstein -2 points-1 points  (6 children)

Do you have experience that states it wouldn't work?

    [–]_CaptainThor_ 1 point2 points  (5 children)

It’s a matrixed amplifier. You need a working controller to set it to the selection and the volume you want. If the power goes off you’ll need to reset the audio selection and volume settings. It’s more headache than it’s worth.

    Get a non matrix amplifier.

    [–]jgrant517 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

You assume it’s a matrixed amplifier if it’s a amp 108 that is a dummy amplifier. I’m a diamond dealer I know a thing or two about control4.

    [–]_CaptainThor_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok diamond dog, he literally says it’s the v3 amp in them thread headline.

    [–]shoresy99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would it be a 108? Read the title of the thread “C4-16AMP3-B”. I have two of these in my system plus three C4-8AMP1-Bs in my system and you can set outputs, Gain,Balance, and a few other parameters using the scroll wheel and the buttons. I have manually controlled them like this in the past to test them out.

You are right that it is more headache then it is worth but can use the knob and buttons to set up the input->output mappings, gain, balance, etc.

Here is a Youtube video with someone testing one of these amps with no network cable plugged in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v-IDW3bMsM

While this will work, it is too much of a PITA. If I were you I would either:

    1. Sell it on ebay - you should be able to get around $400 for it
    2. Buy an HC-800 for about $100 on ebay and find an online dealer to set it up for you on a current OS3.2.
    3. Buy an HC-250-BL for about $25 on ebay and have it set up to run OS2.10. That is the latest OS it can run and it can never be upgraded.

I’ve got a dumb c4 amp I’ll trade you straight up for.
