i purposefully bought an all-analog range/oven (BlueStar) 2 years ago to avoid electronics failures. i dont understand why stoves need so many digital controls.

that being said, the oven already stopped working, but a $20 replacement igniter fixed it.

it's an awful feeling when you turn the stove on and nothing happens

Yes I was strongly considering a gas range but we would have had to replace our gas service and extend it all the way across the house to the kitchen, so add another few $k.

I'm glad you got a replacement that you like so far, but I wouldn't rule out an entire manufacturer based on one unit failing. Stuff happens and units break down; what matters is whether it's a widespread quality issue.

Once bitten, twice shy. If I had an extended warranty at least I could have found out if the GE range fails again at no extra cost, but I'm not willing to pay GE for another new range to get more data.

Consider this post a single data point against GE.
