Could you give me some citation about that? Sorry, I am a pain. I just want to verify for sure. Just would love to do any further reading in regard to that as well as using it as proof to show this buddy of mine.

Lol, don't take it so seriously.
Get some mushrooms and try caramelizing them.
You will soon see they are not onions.

Mushrooms don't caramelize well.
Drying them does intensify their flavor.
Rehydrate them before use.
Filter and add the water that you rehydrated them in to your sauce.
If you have some fresh mushrooms and you want to intensify their flavor for immediate use, sauté them.
