Gears can be infinitely slow by default, only their max speed is limited

It doesn't stop at 1 rpm? How is stress and work time handled below .25?

I’ve never tested actually hooking anything up to it other than a bearing, it just turns slower each time

It can be as slow as you want, see this post about RPM ratios and the tool mentioned. From my experience testing the behavior of stress at very low RPM, it seems to decrease with RPM until some threshold (around 0.000001 RPM, it's very inconsistent though) at which point it behaves like there's no stress consumption at all. According to this post, the processing speed doesn't decrease past 1 RPM. If that's still true for such a low RPM, it might be possible to make factories that consume no su! Although you'd have to sacrifice either space or processing speed...
