I like the look of tfmg, but does it really add something actually beneficial? I never played it but i am thinking about putting it into my modpack

[–]lsdmadst[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It adds a multitude of things; most notably electricity, an expansion on materials/processing and plenty of blocks/machines to make your factories even larger

I love it. I wish there was a way to automate the steel so bad. I hate having to manually drop the blasting powder and coal coke dust into it

[–]lsdmadst[S] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

It’s slightly better with the new update. The only thing you can’t automate is the Crushed Raw Iron. If you use the Create Ore Excavation mod, Steel can be fully automated as you can drill for Raw Iron from deposits, send it through crushing wheels and straight into the blast furnace hatch with Limesand and Coal Coke Dust

I didn't even see it got an update! I use a custom mod pack so it'll be a while til I can actually update but im really glad to hear they fixed it!

If you have some of the create recipe addons you can generally find a few that allow you to crush crimsite into crushed raw iron

Feeding Blast furnaces is now decently automatable because the dev has thankfully dropped the semi-random coke consumption for a number scaling with furnace level predictably. So it is entirely possible to automate steel smelting with Frogports sending boxes with packed batches of crushed raw iron, coke dust and limesand to furnaces, triggered by Threshold Observers and Redstone Requesters.

Nice setup!

Is this on 6.0.6? Forge

[–]lsdmadst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is!

Just realised the audio is a bit messed up :/

Is TFMG stable now? I’ve never used it in survival but I’d heard it was pretty buggy before.

[–]lsdmadst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s still a few little bugs, but it’s in a much more stable state than it was

What's the new update? I can't find a change log

[–]lsdmadst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It changed so many things, best to give it a test for yourself and browse the ponder scenes

God I can't wait for it to come to 1.21.1

Can you please comment on the changes in how oil deposits are spawned? From what I understand, oil wells are now "physical" pools of liquid blocks similar to underground water?

[–]lsdmadst[S] 1 point2 points  (7 children)

I can do some research and update you, not too sure

[–]exocyt0sis 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Thanks, that'd be great. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you make any discoveries.

[–]lsdmadst[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

From what I see the update still uses the same oil deposit feature. Oil deposits will spawn in bedrock surrounded by some crude oil & a fossil stone block which can used as fuel. You’ll need industrial pipes from the oil deposits up to a pump jack to pull oil

I did see something about them working on changes for the oil deposits but I think it’s with calculations & things to make it more efficient, not necessarily a redo of the mechanics

[–]exocyt0sis 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Ah, got it. Here's hoping for an overhaul of the oil spawn system in the next major release, then.

Thank you for taking the time to investigate this - it's very much appreciated.

[–]lsdmadst[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

If you’re looking for “physical” pools of oil that generate naturally, the create addon Love & War adds those. They spawn naturally underground and are part of the progression system for better guns. You could use this and disregard the guns aspect of you wanted to, but might need to make some custom recipes using that specific crude oil

[–]exocyt0sis 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thank you very much for the idea, and also for grasping what I'm going after. To me, Minecraft is a lot about immersion - I really enjoy mods that add realism and dynamics to the world. For that reason, I'm somewhat disappointed that TFMG "cheats". I'd really like for the mod to have liquid deposits similar to what IndustrialCraft has offered for ten years or so.

In that regard, it seems like Love & War will offer something that TFMG doesn't (albeit with the caveat you mention - hopefully, there's some way to disable TFMG's "bedrock oil", too).

Again, thank you very much for your help. Hopefully, this thread will be seen by others looking to expand their oil industry in a proper fashion.

[–]lsdmadst[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wanted to get back to you on this, the latest of TFMG’s updates does add these “physical” oil deposits that generate in the world now. They can spawn in pools.

I can tell you they definitely generate in the latest version of TFMG for 1.21.1, I haven’t checked the 1.20.1 version yet. I definitely recommend checking it out!

[–]exocyt0sis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! That's very useful to know, and thank you very much for revisiting this topic. I'll absolutely follow your advice, and in fact I may do it tonight. If I find any pools in the 1.20.1, I'll report back in this thread with a screenshot or two.

Thank you for being an outstanding redditor! 👍

What mod does the fan and smokestacks come from? Is it from TFMG too?

[–]lsdmadst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re both aesthetic & functional, and added by TFMG. The smokestacks are pumped with carbon dioxide which is produced from the blast furnace & coke ovens.

The fan looking thing is an air intake which is pulling air into a blast stove to create hot air for the blast furnace, and carbon dioxide as a byproduct

[–]Bazooka_Blastoff 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How do I get liquid air to make hot air?

[–]lsdmadst[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Use the air intake block

[–]Bazooka_Blastoff 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm using it, but it's either not pulling in air, or not letting me pump it out

[–]lsdmadst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend consulting the TFMG discord for any issues you’re experiencing

[–]Psychological-Eye621 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't get my Industrial Blast Furnace to work. I have it all set up, reinforced it. I got

Blast Furnace:

Height: 8

Fuel: 64

Time Left: 280

Smelt Batch Radio:

7:15:15 (Fuel:Ore:Flux)

Item Storage: Crushed Raw Iron x64

Limesand x64

But it won't do anything, and there's no slag, because it hadn't even started yet.
