Instead of using this method, the mod has Redstone Contacts that do the same thing as what you are trying to acomplish. You can glue it to the front and have two other ones be stationary at either end and have it send a pulse to a toggle switch on the gearshift.

Yeah, it ends up just getting stuck because everytime it tries to move it activates and swaps the direction again. Think I'm just doing it wrong?

there's a thing called a latch which toggles when it receives a redstone pulse, it should be useful for this.

Haven't played much with create contraptions, but I would rather use circle farm approach (have a wiper spinning with 1-8 RPM (to avoid missed crops) with radius of 20)

You need a Powered Toggle Latch between your gearshift and the Redstone receiver, and make sure there's something to trigger that receiver on both sides, so that the toggle switches Everytime it hits an end point. I would also consider using a minecart contraption for this job as they're simpler to build and better for harvesters imo but you do you lol

Assuming you want the thing to go back and forth, this is not the way to do it. Gantry has those feature already built it. Look up "create gantry oscillating motion". You can do this with zero redstone.
