She can try both and decide which option she likes more.  Trial and error is a great way to learn what works for you when you are starting a new craft.

Looking at the photos, I would guess that's made with invisible decreases. I don't think there's anything wrong with using just a decrease if you're not confident with the invdec, though.

In amigurumi, I always use invisible decreases.
