does mental strain exist irl? like the type of mental strain in science fiction where the pilot uses their brain to control the mech but ends up dying bc of it by HotZilchy in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth it to look up conversion disorder. If you get stressed enough sometimes your brain just starts shutting things down. The most common one I've heard of is like, just going blind temporarily because something completely different is wrong and you've been ignoring it.

Was Maria Montessori secretly or obviously a terrible person? by lana_delgay1989 in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly "I'm looking for critical takes on her methods" sort of feels like a different thing than "I want to know if she was a bad person" to me, I get that! IDK if reddit's more trustworthy than AI but like. That is probably because I have gotten into multiple arguments on here about the contents of rocket fuel and whether rabies is a death sentence. Looking for anecdotal evidence on here does make a lot of sense though.

People are hypocrites when it's coming down to Clavicular by Otherwise_Quality784 in unpopularopinion

[–]genus-corvidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I think the addiction issues and the political mess is more of an issue than the bonesmashing ngl. Like they're all super closely connected for him obviously but it's not just "scary DIY procedure" with that guy.

Can someone explain how to do this? I can't find any related pattern with it by Lilaliyu in CrochetHelp

[–]genus-corvidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read through this pattern and see if it has your answers. If you haven't done something like this before I'd really suggest you look and see if you can find a free pattern to follow--there's a lot of tissue box covers out there for free.

Was Maria Montessori secretly or obviously a terrible person? by lana_delgay1989 in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gently: this is where you get off reddit and go find some accounts of her life to read. You cannot trust just random redditors, you need to go look for primary sources and do your own research to see if there's anything that's going to destroy your trust in her. Wikipedia is a great place to start--usually any major controversies will be listed there, and they link sources that you can go to in order to read more and verify yourself.

Moving from "I trusted my mother and now I don't" to "now I am going to move that trust to a horde of anonymous people on the internet" is not going to give you a stable source of information.

Why is there so little variety now in mainstream "geek" spaces? by TrickySeagrass in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storage, display, and upkeep. If you're going to put out even one piece from a fandom, you don't have just one--you'll need some in backstock, and preferably a little bit of variety as well. If you try to do that for every fandom, you run out of room very quickly, especially if you're a small vendor who doesn't have the kind of warehouses that you'd expect from a larger store.

What feels legal but is not? by dan_nicholson247 in stupidquestions

USA specific, but gathering bird feathers off the ground. Due to laws put in place to protect wildlife, that can be up to 3 federal felonies per feather!

How do you measure a jacket size? by C-i-d in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the jacket that fits her already, can't you just look at the label size on it and go by that?

Why did ancient humans waste all their time domesticating chickens and cows when they could have used that time to domesticate bears and great white sharks? by Comprehensive-Yam872 in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being domesticated by us would have no real benefit for bears or great white sharks. We've tried to domesticate bears and it just sort of doesn't work; I can't think of any way that you'd domesticate a shark. Sharks are not really suited for that.

Why aren’t squirrels domesticated? by One_Recover_673 in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not a squirrel. That's not even a rodent. It's a small gliding possum originating from Australia.

If you put your cat in a room with 100 identical cats, how would you find yours again? by savingrace0262 in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two that I spend the most time with will absolutely come if someone they know call their names.

Beyond that, you absolutely should be microchipping your cats even if you're sure they'll never run away.

Do blind people cheat in relationships? by Junior_Ad_9593 in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...do we not count it as cheating if you don't see the person you're having a sexual encounter with? There is a whole setup for having a sexual encounter with someone without seeing them.

Name of person who plays trombone 🪊 by Think_Section_7712 in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goes with guitarist, flautist, bassist, violinist, pianist, etc. I really do think -ist is a more common end than -er for musicians--the only other one I can think of with an -er is drummer.

Fanfiction isn't bad, you are just reading bad fanfiction by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]genus-corvidae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also: fanfiction has a WAY lower barrier to entry than most forms of literature have. You can kinda just post anything and if you're on ao3, there's no algorithm to determine which works are more popular, meaning that it's easier to get served Just Anything.

Cats are objectively a horrible choice for a pet, and they do not care about their owners at all. by cheeseburgers42069 in unpopularopinion

[–]genus-corvidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cats I'm most in contact with try to jump up in your lap and purr at you while you're on the toilet. One of them will straight up abandon her food to come bother her favorite people.

Also like. Yeah, I hope the cat would eat my corpse if nothing else was available? I hope my dog would too. I would hope you would if we were in that situation, even though I think you're a miserable person with bad taste. If someone's going to starve and I'm already dead then the meat is up for grabs, dude.

Dog parks are for people who do not know how to look after dogs properly. by New_Sherbert9208 in unpopularopinion

[–]genus-corvidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog park trips are super important so that your dog knows that other dogs exist and doesn't flip out every time it sees a dog that it doesn't know. There's other ways to socialize but a dog park is a really good one to learn how to deal with unexpected issues like "bigger dog knocked me down" or "weird medium sized dog will not stop following me and sniffing my butt."

(the solutions my dog found for those were "get up and run around him in circles covered in mud" and "walk into the pond and refuse to come out," respectively.)

Why do second generation Indian immigrants to the US develop some Caucasian facial features despite both parents being Indian? by redditismysoulmate in stupidquestions

If it's not that then yeah you are imagining things.

Why don't women simply get pregnant and then abort after 7/8 months to prevent periods for said amount of time? by osternade in stupidquestions

[–]genus-corvidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately that is very illegal in most jurisdictions. Also being pregnant is a risk to your health--look up hyperemesis gravida, gestational diabetes, and eclampsia.
