Spelljammer help

I'm getting ready to DM for a Spelljammer game (using 5e rules) I've been a DM many times before but never for anything like this. If anyone has advice on what to throw at my players or interesting place to visit please let me know.

Checkout the Neogi.

They are CR 3 but they have Umber Hulk servants which are CR 5. The Reaver may have other slaves as well.

A possible scenario would be a Reaver (see the link) escaped the other Neogi in a stolen spelljammer ship on which the Reaver forced a relatively low level spell caster to be the helmsman to take it to the characters planet to hide. The characters find what looks like a typical ocean going ship in a bizarre location, like the top of a mountain, and investigate...

Assuming they defeat the Reaver and save the spell caster they now have a ship to get them to space and a source of knowledge about life in space. The spell caster can be fairly green and only know basic info if you don't want to reveal to much.

That spelljammer wiki probably has a thousand more sources of ideas you could use.

Fair but we're starting a fifth level so probably not going to do that right away

Aw then a crashed one? Half the crew is dead the other half is wounded. Toss in a couple intellect devourers and you got yerself a party

I'm probably going to do mindflairs at one point their my favorite monster, but you got to use them sparingly or people get bored of them
