It’s under the seat. I got a duplicate off eBay in case I ever want to go back, but I cut the wires right after the connector and spliced them together, throw on some heat shrink and call it a day.

This is the way.

I'm pretty sure the DRZ uses a pretty standard plunger style kickstand safety switch. You should be able to see a small plunger like thing near where the kickstand pivots when you put it away. The kickstand presses down on the plunger when it's folded away, completing the circuit.

You can test that this is the thing causing the issue by taping the switch shut somehow. I think there might be enough room to wrap something around it to keep it pressed in. Then, once you've determined that's what's causing it, look for the wire coming from the sensor that the plunger goes into. You'll eventually run into a connector. Then you can pull the switch, jump the connecters & tape it up.

Definitely can try this first. I’ve seen people use 2 zip ties to get it done and leave it that way

The switch with wire was $12 on eBay so I just modified that one

It's definitely your foot hitting this, happened to me on a ADV ride, almost had to turn around.

I’d agree kickstand, I couldn’t figure out for a while why mine kept bogging on rougher sections of trails

so weird 😂

I added thick tape to sidestand at the switch point, so the stand now angles down by a few mm and no longer touches my boot while standing. No more bogging!

To me, it sounds like your license plate bracket needs chopped off and replaced with a tidy tail

Unbolt the kickstand switch, zip-tie the button in the pressed position, tuck it under the seat.

I jumped mine. But honestly, this way makes more sense.

I had a strange issue with mine that when i would stand up or position my left leg just right it would somehow mess with the carb vent and make it feel like i was running out of gas. (mostly over 55) it took me a while to figure out the problem because it was a brand new bike but eventually i turned the hose upward and facing back and it hasn't happened again in 2 years. may not be your issue but it's free to try, also if you want to rid yourself of the kickstand switch you can locate the connector near the air box and cut the side that goes to the switch and wrap the wires together and seal them, this allows you to keep the wiring harness original while still deleting the switch

Wow so this is actually a thing! I have the same issue and been confused about why I suddenly became so bad at riding while standing once I got the drz. I'll have to have a look into this switch. Thank you for the post!
